On a highly technical course in Tolmezzo, Italy, Team Australia delivered a determined performance at the 2025 FIM Trial des Nations (TdN) on September 21, with both the men’s and women’s squads finishing inside the top 10.
Returning to the scene of the 2011 TdN, riders faced a dry riverbed course lined with steep, rock-strewn banks. In the International Trophy men’s category, Connor Hogan, Chris Bayles and Colin Zarczynski claimed seventh place, while in the Women’s World Championship, Jenna Lupo and rookie Alisha Harry secured ninth. For Zarczynski, it marked his first TdN appearance for Australia since 2015.
All teams were challenged with two laps across 30 sections of the demanding Tolmezzo terrain. Australia held firm in seventh from start to finish – a four-position improvement on its 2024 result in Spain. The team ended on 49 points, just behind the Czech Republic (44pts) but comfortably ahead of Sweden in eighth (74pts).
In a low-scoring event where composure was key, two-time defending champion Japan (11pts) was narrowly beaten by an impressive United States of America (7pts), with Germany also on 11pts in third.

Meanwhile, in the premier Men’s World Championship class, Spain’s Toni Bou, Jaime Busto and Gabriel Marcelli continued their dominance, securing the nation’s 21st consecutive TdN victory, ahead of Great Britain and Italy.
The Spanish women also triumphed, but only on countback after finishing level with Italy on 54pts, while Great Britain completed the podium on 62pts.
For the Australians, Lupo and 17-year-old Harry produced a gritty effort to finish ninth on 189pts. The result was even more impressive given they were competing as a two-rider line-up, without the advantage of dropping a third rider’s worst score. Only Andorra fielded a similar two-rider squad, finishing 11th.
