Strong seventh for the consistent Rykers in Canberra ProMX

Jayden Rykers rode too seventh overall in the MX1 class at Canberra for the second round of the 2021 ProMX Championship on Sunday.

Qualifying saw Rykers slot into 12th aboard his KX450 and he made inroads from there, claiming seventh in the opening 25-minute moto of the round and gaining confidence as a result.

The afternoon saw back-to-back 15-minute races in the premier class, held on a sun-baked track that became hard-pack and ultra-technical. Rykers scored eighth in both parts, sealing P7 for the weekend.

"Today was definitely a step forward in comparison to the first round and we took a lot out of this one," Rykers said. "We've made some changes with the bike to suit me more and they've worked, although I'd still like to be up toward the front further! All in all, we had a consistent day and it's more to build from."

Empire Kawasaki team owner Tyson Cherry was pleased to see Rykers make evident progress, satisfied that the trend is heading in the right direction and they will now turn their attention to round three.

"We were really happy to see Jayden gel with the bike setting changes that we've made since Wonthaggi and it's been a positive second round here in Canberra," Cherry reflected. "The aim was top-five, we didn't quite get there, but it was a good day and we will continue to improve from here."

The third round in Gillman, South Australia, is scheduled for Sunday 30th May 2021. Jayden Rykers has climbed to seventh in the MX1 championship standings and will be joined by incoming MX2 teammate Haruki Yokoyama.
