Spotlight to Shine On Historic Bikes at Sydney Motorcycle Show

Posted:

At next week's Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show, the spotlight will shine on not only the latest and premiering motorcycles and scooters, but a collection of historic and milestone bikes will also star in the Show's new 'Walk of Fame' feature.

As visitors stroll along the Grand Promenade inside the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, their eyes will be drawn to 12 historically significant bikes from leading manufacturers, including the current Australian Land Speed Record holder for a Production Motorcycle, a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R.

Earlier this year, this record-setting motorcycle, and coincidentally the very first unit to roll off the production line in Japan, reached a top speed of 208.153 miles per hour (334.99 km/h) at South Australia's Lake Gairdner Salt Flats and will be on display in its full salt flat racing livery.

Australian Superbike Championship-winning bikes will be showcased by a number of manufacturers with the Ducati 996RS ridden to victory in 1999 by Steve Martin and BMW showcasing its S 1000 RR, which Glenn Allerton raced in his championship-winning 2011.

Whilst across the aisle, Yamaha will be showcasing Stephane Peterhansel's 1991 YZE750T, the motorcycle that claimed the 1991 Paris Dakar Rally.

At either end of the Grand Promenade, revolutionary production motorcycles will be on display with a Honda K1 CB750, the world's first mass produced four-cylinder bike, plus the very first Suzuki Hayabusa in Australia, which upon its inception in 1999 immediately won acclaim as the world's fastest production motorcycle.

Triumph will be showcasing two historic production models - a 1994 Shell Speed Triple Series, the first factory built Streetfighter model and its most iconic modern model, along with a 1973 Trophy Trail TR6 which was Triumph's first scrambles bike, factory-built from the ground up for off-road purposes.

The Walk of Fame will also feature historic motorcycle from Harley-Davidson with a rare 1914 10F, which was only produced for one year with just a handful of models remaining in existence as well as a 1944 WL.

Rounding out the Walk of Fame will be historic bikes from both Aprilia and MotoGuzzi.

The 2013 Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show presented by QBE with Official Vehicle Isuzu D-Max will be Australia's biggest one-stop motorcycle show this year, with floor space at capacity and all major exhibitors locked in.

A record 138 exhibitors will display their latest and greatest wares including new models, exciting concepts, classic and historic bikes as well as everything new and exciting in motorcycle accessories, products and services.
