Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with the Goulburn Valley Junior Motorcycle Club, will host the Australian Junior Motocross Championship (AJMX) for both 2026 and 2027, bringing the nation’s top junior riders to Mooroopna for the five-day event.
The premier national event will attract around 300 of Australia’s best junior male and female riders, alongside families and support crews, with an estimated 1,500 visitors expected to attend. The championships are set to inject more than $1 million into the local economy, highlighting the significant community and economic benefits of hosting elite motorsport in the region. The 2026 AJMX will take place during the traditional September school holidays, with exact dates to be confirmed.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said securing the event for two consecutive years was a major win for the region. “Hosting elite sporting events like the Australian Junior Motocross Championships provides a valuable opportunity to showcase our region to a national audience,” he said. “We’re especially proud to host the championships not just once, but twice. It’s a reflection of the outstanding facilities we have in Mooroopna and the ability to deliver top-tier racing experiences. We’re looking forward to welcoming competitors, families, and visitors for what promises to be an exciting and memorable week. We hope guests take the opportunity to enjoy our vibrant café culture, explore retail experiences, and visit iconic attractions like Shepparton Art Museum and the Museum of Vehicle Evolution.”
Goulburn Valley Junior Motorcycle Club president, Will Gookier, added that the opportunity to host the nation’s top juniors is a big moment for the club and the region. “The club is excited to bring the country’s most talented junior motocross riders to the region to showcase their talent to the nation in our own back yard,” he said. “We are looking forward to putting on an action-packed week of racing and crowning our national junior champions at the end of the championships.”
