The organisers of the 2013 Australian Safari have released a statement confirming that a Moto Competitor has passed away due to injuries suffered in crash during stage one of Today's Fifth leg of the event.
At this point in time the name of the rider has not been released.
"At 9.33 am today, a MOTO competitor had an accident on stage 1, 50km East of Minilya. Despite the immediate intervention of emergency services, the competitor died at the scene as a result of their injuries," a post on the https://www.australasiansafari.com.au web site stated.
"The rest of today's leg has been cancelled. The Organisers have arranged for a Pastor and Counsellors to be available at the Bivouac.
"A full investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death has already commenced in association with local and motorsport authorities."
A further statement will be issued by the organisers at 7:00pm tonight in Carnarvon.
