After a long and challenging recovery, Ruben Fernandez is set to make his highly anticipated return to racing at the Spanish International event in Sariego on Monday, August 19th.
The Spaniard, who was injured in a crash during the opening corner of the first MXGP round in Argentina, has spent months regaining his fitness. After recently receiving the all-clear to ride again, Fernandez is eager to take the next step towards returning to MXGP competition.
“I’m excited to get back to racing after such a long layoff,” Fernandez shared. “The goal is to be back on the MXGP start gate, but after discussing with the team, we agreed that competing in this event first would be a smart move. I’m not putting too much pressure on myself but want to ensure I’m 100% fit before returning to the MXGPs.”
Fernandez’s return to racing marks an important milestone as he works toward rejoining the world championship before the end of the season. His performance in Sariego will provide valuable insight into his readiness for the intense competition of MXGP.
Meanwhile, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Ferruccio Zanchi are preparing for the 16th round of the 2024 MXGP World Championship in Arnhem, Netherlands. After a strong showing on the rocky terrain of Uddevalla, where Gajser returned to the podium, the team is ready for the challenges of the final sand circuit. With Switzerland on the horizon, this period will be crucial for all riders as Gajser looks to maintain his MX1 championship lead heading into the final rounds.
