Robbie Maddison on top in Spain

Posted:

Honda Australia's Robbie Maddison continued his winning streak this past weekend in Spain following on from his recent coup d'Ì©tat in Queensland where he picked up the King of the Coast title for the third year running. After travelling to the other side of the world earlier this week, Maddison pulled off a sensational victory up against a field of seven other international riders in the Moviestar FMX International, an event held in the glamorous coastal city of San Sebastian which is situated in the Basque Country of Northern Spain. Maddison showed no sign of nerves and was the top qualifier of the three man final. After that, it was a show down between two of America's best, one being their hottest new talent Mike Mason who is currently sitting in third position on the Mountain Dew Action Sports Tour. Maddo's other rival was none other than US superstar and Europe's favourite import, Ronnie Renner. Maddison attacked the course, throwing down his biggest and most technical moves, bringing the 10,000 person strong crowd to their feet. Renner then attempted to knock Maddo off the top spot with flip combos and his signature up-side down whip, but it just wasn't enough and the American had to settle for second. Mason also pulled off some of the most spectacular tricks of the event, one being his signature ‰Û÷double can to scorpion double nac'. He also displayed some impressive flip variations including an 80 foot nac, but again, he couldn't get past Robbie on points, finishing third overall. As the horns blew and chain saws roared, Maddo happily put another victory under his belt for 2005 to add to his recent Raceline Promotions "Rider of the Year" award and Redbull's "Australia's Best FMX Rider" poll win. "The course at San Sebastian was awesome. It was held in an indoor bullfighting ring where we had a variety of ramps to hit. One was 75 foot, another 78 and another at 80. The ramps plus the super kicker meant there were a bunch of different options you could take to put together a run which made it really interesting." "Again, thanks to my sponsors including Honda. This year has been incredible. I'm now looking forward to starting my tour next week with the Crusty Demons back home in Australia." Robbie will be joining the Crusty's on a seven week outback tour, starting in Darwin, winding through the Red Centre and finishing up in Coffs Harbour on the east coast of Australia.
