Robbie Maddison is King of the Coast

Posted:

Honda Australia sponsored Robbie Maddison has pulled off a trifecta of wins and honours in the King of the Coast competition after a night of horror before the event, when his motorcycle was stolen from the arena. After filing police reports and getting his bike back just in time, Maddison, number one ranked freestyle rider in Austrlia, threw down a flawless run in the opening round of the Gold Coast event in the gusty conditions which continued to give competitors trouble throughout the day. Not needing to ride the second round to qualify for the final, Maddison still went out much to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd. He opened with a one hander back-flip but on his second jump, fell victim to the windy conditions, with his bike being blown out from underneath him. Maddison came down hard, pulling his shoulder and popping his knee out of joint, making it an uncertainty as to whether he would make the final. However, adrenalin and competitiveness pushed the young star on, and he went out in the final, performing his two warm up jumps then stopping to pop his knee back into joint. Putting the pain aside, Maddison rode extremely well, ultimately putting in a first-rate performance to take the win ‰ÛÒ his third successive in the King of Coast competition - from up and comer Robbie Adelberg and Joel Balchin who took third. To top off the proceedings, Raceline Promotions awarded Maddison the "Rider of the Year" crown. It was also then announced that Maddison had been voted "Australia's Best FMX Rider", a poll run by Redbull that allows riders to recognise those within their industry who they most admire. "Its been a massive year for me," the 24 year old Kiama resident said. "I've been all over the world and had some excellent wins including the King of Coast again this year which has really made it all worthwhile." "We had some issues to deal with in Queensland seeing as how my bike got nicked and then blowing my knee out. But it all worked out in the end, and I really do want to thank my sponsors including Honda because I could not have done any of this without the reliability of the Honda CR250. Also a big thank you to all the supporters of this great sport, my family and my friends who have been behind me 100%." "I'll be doing plenty more before the end of the year so I look forward to seeing everybody out there supporting FMX.‰Û
