Rob Wasley and Ray Tschorn Record Home Wins In Club Challenge

Posted:

Rob Wasley (VRT Signs) and Ray Tschorn took the overall honours in the Club Challenge 1000cc and 600cc classes at the third round of the 2015 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli.

The classes formed part of the third round of the series held at Barbagallo in WA, with 32 riders competing across the two categories.

The first race of each class was held on Saturday, but it was Sunday when the round winners were crowned ‰ÛÒ treating the huge crowd to some wonderful racing action.

Club Challenge 1000cc

Race two in the Club 100cc class turned into an intense battle of two riders ‰ÛÒ much like the opening race of the class on Saturday.

Mike Howden (SKB Racing) and Wasley were the two riders in question ‰ÛÒ with Wasley looking to reverse the result in race one where he had to settle for second.

And despite the intense and close racing, he managed to do just that ‰ÛÒ holding Howden at bay to record a .761 second win.

Dean Martin (Hydroquip Pumps), Tim Debruyn and Anton Jones (BPR) rounded out the top-five.

In race three it was again a battle between Wasley and Howden doing battle ‰ÛÒ and it was to and fro throughout the whole race at the front.

As the chequered flag was flown it was again Wasley who finished just ahead of Howden ‰ÛÒ this time a mere .160 of a second separating the pair.

Debruyn was only a couple of seconds behind in third place, with Carlo Bertozzi and Andrew Essles rounding out the top five. The final race result handed Wasley the overall round win ahead of Howden, while Debruyn claimed third spot on the outright podium.

Wasley won the class with 70 points for the round, with Howden in second (65 points) and Debruyn in third (53 points).

Club 600cc

The opening Sunday race and the second overall race for the class saw Tschorn take control from start to end.

Tschorn, who finished third in the opening race on Saturday had opened up a 10+ second lead by the halfway point of the race ‰ÛÒ Matt Price trailing behind in second.

Price had opened a pretty handy gap of his own to third-placed Sam Mitchell, who was locked in a battle with Malcolm Johnson and race one winner Scott McCue.

Tschorn was the only rider who managed to break the one-minute lap time, as he rode to a 13.640 second win ahead of Price and Mitchell.

It was again all Tschorn in the final race for the class, leading from start to end to take a well-earned victory.

Tommy King finished the race in second ‰ÛÒ a position he held the whole way through, while Price waited until the penultimate lap to pass MCCue and claim the final podium spot.

Tschorn took a comfortable 10-point class win with 68 points ahead of McCue (58 points) and Mitchell (51 points) in third.
