Riding and driving at Woods Point update

Posted:

Senior Constable Ken form the Woods Point Police Station has checked in again with a report on teh conditions around the Woods Point area in Victoria - here is Ken's take on the situation. "Spring is nearly on us, we haven't had much rain or snow this week, but you will still find some snow on top of Mt. Skene. Most of the tracks here are open but very muddy and slippery. Lots of trees down and my friends at DSE tell me they won't be able to any track repairs for some time. Members of the Geelong 4WD Club spent the last two weekends here getting dirty and working hard cutting holes through the obstacles. The river crossings are a problem as well some such as the Snake Edwards Track at Knockwood are badly washed out and with the river up and running hard, makes crossing very dangerous. This one in particular I know the DSE worked hard to repair before Winter and now due to flooding and fires there is a 5 meter high pile of trees and rubbish blocking the east side of the crossing. Moonlight Track is still closed for winter although I hear it is in good nick. I have not tried the crossing at Gaffney's Creek Knockwood as floods and fires have also taken their toll here this winter. The old Coach Road may be open as the Geelong boys and girls did some heavy work there with the chain saws. We will see many more trees come down over the spring storm season so if you are coming up here be prepared. Also be aware that Mansfield Shire has officially closed the Jamieson Licola Road between Wrens Flat and Connors Plain, at least till September, check with them before you leave for further information. One last thing, I am working on a Travel Itinerary Form to be placed on the Victoria Police Website, I would like to make this available to all travellers to register their travel plans with us for use in case of an emergency situation. The idea is the form once filled out would be emailed direct to the appropriate police station OIC; this will make locating lost or injured travellers a little bit easier if we know where to start and what we are looking for. It would not be compulsory and could be filled with as much information as the traveller wishes to give; the forms would not be stored on any database and would be deleted by the OIC once the trip time period was over, barring incidents. I would like to see a link to the form placed on the various club and magazine websites to make access widespread for use by individuals, trip co-ordinators and leaders etc." Any feedback on this proposal would be appreciated by email at kenneth.dwight@police.vic.gov.au
