Ray Vandenberg re-united with his 83 Title Winning Machine

Posted:

The planets were aligned on Saturday the 9th of November as the Youngest ever Winner of the Australia‰Ûªs Greatest MX series, Mr Motocross had another huge day to remember some 30 Years On, from winning his title.

As a group of family and close friends got to witness and experience a emotional night at his Family Home and be part of the Surprise 50th birthday present of a lifetime, as Ray was handed back his Original #9 plated 83 Suzuki RM 500 which had been completely restored.

In disbelief and shock Vandenberg was heard saying "that‰Ûªs my bike, that‰Ûªs really my bike I can‰Ûªt believe its home, Im so so Happy and I just cant believe what Rosco Holden and Kristian Perry have done."

The duo on a road trip to Horsham MX Nationals in July 2012 came up with the challenging idea , that was born that day to do something Special for their close mate Goof!

Holden being in the Industry for a long time, enlisted his right arm on many of his previous events Les Barfoot and then went straight to a group of 7 dedicated mates and RM Experts and followers of Goof and after negotiating to purchase on a handshake from its previous owner Jason Ladson, who is a Big fan of the 83 Champ and had already himself spent two years locating and restoring the Original parts.

One of the biggest mission‰Ûªs was locating the Original Motor, after countless emails, enquiries, phone calls, across the country and abroad, the Original head and barrel was right under their noses in Victoria, with collector and enthusiast Rhian Glover, who when contacted and heard what we were up to for our Mate, was blown away, and generously donated both back to the Epic project.

A Special mention has to go to Robbie Urquhart who did a incredible job, taking and replicating complete new set of Goofs Original plastics, from MDF, Bondo moulds to the TMV Dutch Plastics that the famous mentor Trevor Flood used to provide for that factory look on the Big Yellow (TFR) Rocket.

This project could not have been done without the 23 financial contributors and further 10 that provided bike project time and build commitment, all who clearly love and care enough for the now 50 yr old former MX Star.

"We felt it very important in preserving one of Australia‰Ûªs Significant Pieces of Motorcycling History, the fastest bike clearly on the infamous Vandenberg title day at Broadford in 83," stated friend and one of the people involved in the project, Rosco Holden.

The 1983 Suzuki RM500 will be on its First Public Display at the Holden on Tight promoted Mr Motocross Legends and Stars Charity Dinner, at Crown Casino, on March the 8th 2014.

With over 550 Presold, tickets already sold, people interested in attending the night can book at https://trybooking.com/default.html
