Gas Gas's Adam Raga has capped of his championship winning season with a final round win at the Spa ‰ÛÒ Francorchamps circuit in Belgium over the weekend (Sep-18).
Adam Raga
"It is the perfect way to finish a great season". said Raga. "I am especially pleased with the result today, as the conditions were very difficult. Also I had the added challenge of riding at the front of the main riders, which is never easy. My task was made a little easier as I could use some of the information I gained from watching Fajardo riding ahead of me. Apart from the impossible sections it has been a good trial." Former world champions Dougie Lampkin (Repsol Montesa HRC) pushed Raga all the way but in the end finished an agonising 2 points away from the Spanish champion. To make matters worse for Lampkin, the win would have also seen hi overhaul his Japanese team-mate Takahisa Fujinami for second overall in the championship. "I am obviously very disappointed as I came so close to taking the win today and to taking second place in the championship". said a dejected Lampkin. "But to be truthful I haven‰Ûªt ridden well enough during the first part of the trial to really deserve to achieve that. My second lap was so much better, and at least is one positive thing in what otherwise has been a bad day. It hasn‰Ûªt been a bad trial at all, it just would have been better if they had changed the sections which the all the riders said were impossible, as that proved to be true and spoilt what otherwise has been a good event." he added. Fujinami was philosophical about his days third overall second in the championship. "I think I am more happy than Dougie, but still I am not really that happy". he said. "After Germany the title had gone so I came here to win and to take second in the championship. Although I have kept second in the championship I am not happy with the way I rode today. My objective was to be World champion again, but that has not been so, but overall in the first year for the four stroke it has not been such a bad result." Main Photo: Dougie Lampkin gets wild
