Quality fields to hit Gillman Speedway this Saturday night

Posted:

Sidecar numbers are down slightly on last meeting but with a number of riders making their first appearances for the season, the quality is top class.

Gillman Speedway will see three former Australian Champions ‰ÛÓ Darrin Treloar (NSW), Glenn O'Brien (WA) and Mark Mitchell (SA) ‰ÛÓ head the bill, with another four riders ‰ÛÓ Mark Plaisted (SA), Byren Gates (Vic), Daniel Puddy (SA) and Warren Monson (Vic) ‰ÛÓ from last season's Australian Championship also in the line-up.

Plus Trent Headland returns to the fold and he's capable of matching it with the best, and local youngster Chris Pascoe showed enough at the opening meeting to say he can't be ignored.

The Solo numbers have been disappointing in recent seasons, with many of the international riders choosing not to ride, and few riders coming through the junior ranks, but things are on the improve and there are actually more Solo riders than Sidecars this week, led by Swedish visitors Ricky Kling and Pontus Aspgren.

As well as the two Swedes there will be the current Victorian Champion Tyron Proctor, and a bit of a mini-Mildura invasion with Justin Sedgmen, Tom Hedley, Ryan Sedgmen and Brenton Barnfield all keen enough to make the 800 km round trip.

Kling (Eastbourne) and Proctor (Wolverhampton) both ride in the Elite League in England, while Justin Sedgmen rides for Premier League Birmingham but also doubles up with Elite League Swindon.

The Quads will contest round two of the Hustleratv.com.au Handicap point score series and the season point score for a set of tyres looks likely to get crowded near the top with the first and second placegetters from round one ‰ÛÓ Ken Chapman and Nathan Watson ‰ÛÓ both missing this meeting.

There will also be junior racing on the infield track during the track watering, and a number of former speedway riders with be amongst eleven drivers taking part in several dirt kart racing demonstrations.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. and racing will start at 7.30 p.m.

Gillman Speedway is located on Wilkins Road, Gillman.
