Qualifying Has Been Run and Done at Horsham World Juinor Motocross

Qualifying for the 2018 FIM World Motocross Championships got underway today on a warm sunny day at Horsham in Western district of Victoria.

Host club, the Horsham Motocrcyle Club, had their prized circuit in top shape for the worlds best with a good crowd on hand to take in the action of the opening day.

The day started with two free practice sessions in the morning where riders quickly became alimated with the track and the warm conditions.

125cc:
In the 125cc class Italian Mattia Guadaganini qualified on pole, just pipping Australian Baliey Malkiewicz who held their top spot as the last lap wound down. Guadaganini threw down a pole winning 1:48.434 on the final lap of the session to finish 0.325 seconds ahead of Australian MXD Champion Malkiewicz who logged a 1:48.759. Czech rider Petr Polak held the top spot for a good portion of the session before eventually finishing third fastest with a time of 1:48.962.


The top three riders where the only ones to break into the 1:48 second range with the following six rider all in the 1:49 range.

Australian's John Bova, Blake Fox and Regan Duffy all qualified in the top ten. One of the heavy favourites, Frenchman, Thibaut Benistant rounded out the top ten.

It was American Caden Braswell who was the class of the field in the 85cc class. Braswell had a monopoly at the top of the leader board for the 30 minute session, carding an impressive fastest lap time of 1:51.944, almost half a second quicker than second fastest, Camden McLellan. South African McLellan was in a tight tussle for the second fastest time with Dutchman Kay de Wolfe. McLellan eventually bettering de Wolfe by just over a tenth of a second.

American Ryder DiFrancesco was the only other rider to break into the 1:52 range with the fourth fastest time. Belgian Liam Everts rounded out the top five. Of the Australian's, Kawaskai mounted Brad West was the quickest finishing in tenth.

65cc:
The 65cc class produced some close action with Damien Kniuman taking the top spot. The Dutchman had close company with Australian Braden Plath finishing less than two tenths behind at the end of the seassion. Enzo Temmerman rounded out the top three ahead of American Logan Best and Australian Kayden Minear.
