Positive prognosis for Andrea Iannone

Posted:

Andrea Iannone underwent surgery yesterday, 7 May, at the Dexeus clinic in Barcelona for treatment for compartment syndrome in his right forearm.

The Italian will remain under observation for all of Wednesday, and although recovery time is still uncertain, his prognosis is positive.

Staples that were applied to the wound are scheduled to be removed before the Mugello GP, and in the meantime, Iannone is expected to be back in the Energy T.I. Pramac Racing Team garage for the French Grand Prix on 19 May.

‰ÛÏI can‰Ûªt exactly say that I‰Ûªm at my best." Iannone stated. "Following the Jerez weekend, I flew to Barcelona for an operation on my right arm, to address the problem that has been bothering me since Qatar, but now I really feel bad.

"I‰Ûªm sure it will take some time, but I‰Ûªm confident because Dr Mir has operated on many other riders in the past, and he certainly has valuable experience in this area.

"He told me that he doesn‰Ûªt often see such a compressed muscle, but it seems that everything went well; I just have to wait for the pain to pass. He also worked on the wound on my knee to try and speed up the recovery, and although that was painful, I‰Ûªm glad that he was able to do it.

"I can‰Ûªt wait to have this all behind me so that I can get back on my bike," he added.

The following comment was released by Dr Mir‰Ûªs clinic:

"The patient Andrea Iannone was operated on this afternoon at the QuirÌ_n Dexeus University Hospital for compartment syndrome in his right forearm." A representative from Dr Mir's clinic stated.

"Dr Xavier Mir, QuirÌ_n Dexeus University Hospital Director of Microsurgery and Hand Surgery, carried out a release of the forearm fascia via microsurgery. In addition, he surgically cleaned the wound in the patient‰Ûªs right knee.

"The patient will remain in the hospital for 24 hours," the representative concluded
