Pirro and Takahashi to ride with Team Gresini in Moto2 for 2011

Posted:

Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi have been confirmed by Fausto Gresini in a two man Team Gresini for the 2011 Moto2 season.

Both riders have hit the track in Valencia for the official Moto2 testing already aboar their Moriwaki MD600 machines. Cold temperatures and strong winds did nothing to help but both riders gave positive feedback on their first run out.

"I am really pleased with this first test," Yuky Takahashi said. "Even though we didn't make major changes to the bike, just using the setting left by Elias, I was able to lap quicker than I managed during the whole weekend. I felt good on the bike and I managed to establish a good feeling with it despite the low temperatures and strong winds. Overall it has been a more than positive first contact."

Michele Pirro added, "I immediately had a better feeling with the bike today than I had at Aragon, when I stood in for the injured Ivanov. Perhaps the time that has passed since the last Supersport race has helped me in that I am not riding in the same way and that allowed me to tackle the circuit in a different way. I am particularly pleased despite the windy conditions, which limited the work we could do today, and it has been a positive session."

Fausto Gresini concluded, saying, "We have started a new adventure today with two new riders, even though Michele Pirro already rode with us at Aragon, when he really impressed us. I am happy and I hope our team can find the right blend to have another season that matches our potential."

Michele Pirro was born in S.Giovanni Rotondo (Italia) on the 5th July 1986, He made his debut in the 125cc World Championship in 2003 and won the Italian Superstock title in 2007 and 2008. In 2009 he moved to the World Supersport series, finishing fifth overall in 2010.

Yuki Takahashi was born in Saitama (Japan) on the 12th July 1984. He made his World Championship debut in 2001 in the 125 class before becoming a full time 250 rider in 2005. In 2006 he finished sixth overall with two victories to his name. In 2008, still in the 250cc class, he scored three podiums to finish fifth overall whilst in 2009 he stepped up to MotoGP for seven races. In 2010 he finished 12th overall in the inaugural season of Moto2.
