NSW Junior Track Championships Run and Won

Posted:

Last weekend‰Ûªs New South Wales Junior Track Championship meeting staged at the Barleigh Ranch Raceway provided further proof what a richly talented group of young motorcycle racers are progressing through the junior ranks.

With championship honours up for grabs the youngsters turned on plenty of excitement and drama for an appreciative roll-up of fans.

From the 12 championship classes there was only one rider who managed to take the honours in more than one class.

That was Taree rider Kye Andrews in the 11 to Under 13 Years classes who won five of his six heat races then both finals, but even he was made to work hard in several of those races.

Being top qualifier for a final was no guarantee of success as only five of the nine finals were won by the top scorer from the heats.

In the three classes decided on points over five rounds, only one of them was won with a maximum score which confirmed the cut-throat nature of the racing across the weekend.

The most amazing result of the meeting came in the final race, the 250cc 4stroke class for the 13 to Under 16 year olds.

The two top qualifiers Zac Cook and Billy Van Erde crashed on the opening lap leaving the way for Cowra rider Joe Dawes to lead home Hayden Spinks (St George) and Max Whale (Max Whale) to the flag.

Both Dawes and Spinks had only qualified for the final from the repechage as they were not among the top ten scorers form the heats.

Hunter Motor Cycle Club member Isaac Hawes scored a win and a second in two other classes for the older riders, while there were also wins for Max Whale and Jake Farnsworth.

Central Coast riders Senna Agius and Ryan Smith and John Lytras of North Brisbane had some tremendous battles in their classes with Agius and Lytras taking wins.

Forbes rider Tom Drane, Jack Hyde of Taree, Thomas Bullen of Coffs Harbour and Joshua Hall of the Gold Coast were the others to step on to the top of the rostrum after class wins.

Championship wins certainly did not come easy, nor should they, but there were plenty of riders who did not win who turned in good performances which augers well for the future.
