Motorcycling NSW Junior Trials Training Camp a Huge Success

Posted:

Saturday dawned with clear skies and warm weather for the eager class of Junior trials riders who were participating in the motorcycling NSW Junior Trials Training Camp at Pacific Park over the weekend 3rd and 4th December.

Heading the coaching ranks was Jordi Pascuet who runs the Pascuet Off Road training Centre in Catalunya, Spain and has trained some of Australia's and the World's best riders. Jordi was assisted with expert help from Champion local riders Kevin Zarcynski and Kyle Middleton.

Kevin and Kyle both donated their own time to coach on both days, and without them this Junior camp would not have been possible. Their easy manner, and expert help, along with how easily they integrated with Jordi's coaching style helped to make the weekend a great success.

A varied group of riders participated in the training camp with ages from little tackers of 9 year olds, and not much bike time, to Australian Junior Champion, JJ Chellas, and a young visitor Blake Fox from New Zealand who rides the Expert line at home.

The camp kicked off at 10am with a group talk from Jordi Pasqcuet about bike preparation and setup of controls, levers, bar position, and then moved onto some basic bike control and balance skills, that even the best riders found some skill improvements in. After some time the riders were broken down into three groups for training that was more specific to their skill levels. The coaches rotated between the groups.

Sunday proceeded to throw a colder, bleaker day down to dampen the kids enthusiasm, but it didn't work, they were all up for round 2, and ready to go right on time.

Jordi started the day with a class on body preparation and a series of warm up and stretching exercises, then everyone was split into groups again, and the coaches rotated to give everyone equal time.

The rider improvement was obvious right across the board, and it was not only the improvement in technical ability that was obvious but the group camaraderie was also palatable. They were all having a ball.

At the conclusion of the last class on Sunday the 3 coaches put on a masterful display of riding on the rocky outcrop behind the Pacific Park Kiosk, with Kyle, Kevin and Jordi showcasing their incredible skills. There was a lot of gasps and applause from the appreciative crowd of young Trials riders and their parents. A fantastic end to a very productive and useful weekend.

Paul Arnott from the Motorcycling NSW Trials Sports Committee commented on the weekend, "It was so nice at the end of Sunday afternoon to have so many kids come up and say "that was the best weekend EVER" or "wow I never thought I could do that"! I think almost every one of them was beaming. It was great to be a part of a terrific Development Program that had instant results".

Arnott commented further "I would really like to thank Motorcycling NSW for supporting, and funding this initiative, Kevin Zarcynski and Kyle Middleton for volunteering their precious time to coach, it's really, Jordi Pascuet for his initial idea sitting around a table at the Barcelona X-Trial, and for chasing me up to make it happen. A fantastic coach who has now left his mark on Trials in Australia. Thanks mate ....First Class! Finally to the Marchant Family, owners of Pacific Park who go out of their way to help any way they can. They not only waived the fees all weekend for Trials riders and their parents, but go to extraordinary lengths to promote the sport. Thanks.
