More Podium Success for TM Racing Australia at AMH Queensland SX

Posted:

TM Racing Australia has continued their successful 2013 racing campaign with team rider Nick Sutherland once again putting his TM 250 two stroke on the podium, this time at the opening round of the AMH Queensland Supercross Championships held on Saturday the 3rd of November.

Sutherland who has had considerable success this year on the national stage, raced to a solid second place finish at the event promoted by Robbie Marshall on his parents property in Dundas, Queensland.

After qualifying first early in the day's proceedings in the Pro Lites class, Sutherland finished his opening heat races with a first and a third place finish, before going on to finish second in the days final event behind Brenden Harrison.

"The opening round went pretty good for me, " Sutherland explained. ‰ÛÏI started out qualifying first which was a good start to the day.

‰ÛÏIn the first heat race I got to the lead early and got away and won that one. The second race I got a good jump out of the gate, but with the first corner being so tight I got slammed from behind and caught up a bit.

‰ÛÏI came out of the turn in sixth or seventh and was able to work my way to be in a position to make a pass for the lead in the whoops in the final lap. I went for the pass on the outside, but unfortunately the rider I was making the move on took us both out, leaving me to get back up and salvage third in that race!

‰ÛÏI was able to set the fastest lap time in the opening two races, which was another positive," he added.

"In the final race I started in second place behind Casey Turner, with Harry behind me. Harrison was able to make a move around both of us for the lead and by the time I got past Turner Harry was gone so I ended up second for the round."

With the opening round of the Queensland titles done and dusted, Sutherland will turn his attention to the second and final round of the title this weekend, though his main focus at this point in time is the final round of the National SX Championship being held the following weekend in Toowoomba.

"I will spend this weekend practising in the lead up to next weeks second round," the 24-year-old rider continued. "I spent yesterday out at Haworth‰Ûªs track, the track that we will race at this weekend for round two of the Queensland titles and then will find a couple of other track to practice on later in the week.

"I need to take the win this weekend if I want to win the overall, but my main goal is the weekend after at the final round of the Australian Supercross Championship, I really want to finish the season off on the box, this weekend will be some good practice for Toowoomba." Sutherland concluded.

Sutherland was joined at the opening round of the championship by teammates Nyk Geck and Ryan Ziepes with both riders enjoying the more relaxed atmosphere that the new series had to offer.

"The event on the weekend was one of the most fun events I have been to in ages," Geck enthused. "It had a great atmosphere, a good crowd and made racing fun again.

"It really was a great day all round, we had some great weather, the racing was done early and we were packed up and out of there by 5pm, a nice stress free day of racing, I really enjoyed it," he added.

"I was happy with how I rode, I just had some bad luck in my heat races. I had a big crash in one of them, and then had to DNF the second heat after a first corner crash took about five of us out.

"It meant I had last pick of the gate for the final race and I finished 9th. Overall it was a good day though." Geck concluded.

Ziepes backed up Geck's sentiments about the day and is looking forward to the second round which will be hosted by Robert Howarth in Leyburn, Queensland on a track that is a replica of one of the AMA Supercross tracks used during the 2013 American season.

"The Queensland Supercross round held at the Marshall property would be one of the best events I have ever raced. It ran so smooth, the track was good but still safe for the up and coming guys." Ziepes stated.

"I struggled a fair bit with my starts which didn't help on such a tight track, but overall it was a good weekend and I can't wait for round two this weekend were the track looks as though it will be the best supercross track we have raced on so far this year."

While both Sutherland and Ziepes will line up for round two of the Qld series this weekend, Nyk Geck will be out of action due to prior commitments. All three TM Racing Australia riders will then set their sights on the final round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships the following weekend to finish of the 2013 racing season.
