The Monster Energy Supercross Championship rolls into Lucas Oil Stadium for Round 9, bringing with it the season’s first 250SX East/West Showdown and a critical battle in the 450SX title fight.
As history shows, Indianapolis has often been a turning point in the championship chase—winners of this round have gone on to claim the 450SX title in 21 of the past 32 seasons (66%), making this a race where contenders look to solidify their positions.

One of those riders hoping to keep momentum on his side is Ken Roczen, who finally conquered Daytona last weekend in his 12th attempt, delivering Suzuki’s first win at the historic venue since 2009. The victory marked Roczen’s 23rd career 450SX win, tying him with legends Kevin Windham and James Stewart for seventh in all-time podium finishes. Sitting within striking distance of the championship lead, Roczen has proven he’s still a serious title threat.
However, the red plate remains firmly in Cooper Webb’s hands after his runner-up finish in Daytona. The two-time champion is now just one podium away from becoming the 10th rider in history to reach 70 career 450SX podiums. While Webb’s performance has been consistent, Chase Sexton is closing in, sitting just 10 points behind heading into Indianapolis. Sexton, making his 70th career 450SX start, has been a constant force this season, but questionable racing choices and small mistakes have put him on the back foot. Now, he’s looking to turn things around and close the gap in the championship race.

Aaron Plessinger was another standout in Daytona, scoring his first podium of the season with a third-place finish. The KTM rider has struggled to break into the top three this year but showed signs of hitting his stride, making him one to watch in Indy. Meanwhile, Justin Cooper, Justin Barcia, and Coty Schock—who makes his 450SX debut after earning his first SMX podium in Arlington—will also be looking to make an impact in a deeply competitive field.

250SX Showdown
While the 450SX class continues to heat up, all eyes will be on the highly anticipated 250SX East/West Showdown, where the best of both coasts collide for the first time this season. Haiden Deegan enters as the West Coast points leader, fresh off a dominant 1-1-2 performance in Arlington. The second-year Supercross pro has quickly established himself as a serious title contender and will look to fend off challengers in the combined field.
On the East Coast, Tom Vialle has been steadily building momentum. The Frenchman secured his first podium of the season with a runner-up finish in Daytona and now sits second in the standings, edging closer to the championship lead. Max Anstie continues to defend the red plate, but after admitting to struggling in Daytona, he now finds himself under pressure from both Vialle and Seth Hammaker, who also landed on the podium last weekend.

Adding to the excitement is RJ Hampshire, who finally broke through for his first career Daytona win last weekend. Now tied with Cameron McAdoo, Christian Craig, Jett Lawrence, and Jeremy McGrath for sixth all-time in 250SX podiums, Hampshire is proving to be a legitimate contender as the season progresses.
With 53% of past 250SX Indy winners going on to win their respective divisional championships, the stakes are high for this year’s showdown. Riders like Michael Mosiman, Coty Schock, and Hardy Munoz are also coming off strong performances and will be looking to shake up the results.

As Supercross enters its 35th year in Indianapolis, history suggests that this round will play a major role in shaping both title fights. With the tightest championship battles of the season and a stacked field in both classes, Lucas Oil Stadium is set to deliver another unforgettable night of racing.
