Mitch Evans has made the difficult decision to skip the upcoming round of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship, the MXGP of Italy, as he grapples with a troublesome wrist injury.

The Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP rider faced a grueling challenge at the MXGP of Turkey last week, where he displayed immense grit by riding through excruciating pain in both motos. An old wrist injury flared up, causing increasing discomfort throughout the event, ultimately hampering his usual performance. Despite the adversity, the Australian managed to secure valuable championship points, finishing in twelfth and sixteenth positions.

Upon returning to Belgium, the factory rider sought specialized medical attention and underwent dedicated treatment in a bid to expedite his recovery. However, the injury has proven stubborn, preventing him from resuming training on the bike. Riding under these conditions would not only impede the healing process but also risk exacerbating the injury.

With the GP of Italy on the horizon next weekend, both Mitch Evans and his team have opted for a cautious approach, allowing the injury the necessary time to heal completely. A decision regarding Evans’ participation in the final MXGP of the season in Great Britain will be made at a later date.

Antti Pyrhonen, Team Manager of Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP, remarked, “We are working closely with Mitch to find the best way for him to recover to 100%. For sure it’s a tough decision to withdraw Mitch from Italy but we’re convinced that it is the right one; then we will see when is the best time to be back racing. We thank Mitch for his professional attitude and for taking the right choice in terms of his fitness and ability to compete at the highest level.”
