MID WEEK MOTO Our Weekly Look Into All Things Moto

Author: Aaryn Minerds

Welcome to MID WEEK MOTO presented by, our weekly look into all aspects in the world of dirt bike racing.

From the weekends racing results, to the more interesting and unusual happenings from the week gone by including some of the rumours and findings on social networks, we will take a look and anything and everything dirt bike related.

Hill claimed the Red SX Open Championship leaders plate at the ASX on the weekend then jumped on a plane back to the U.S to finalise his 2014 AMA Supercross deal
Aussie SX Meets Moto GP: Round's four and five of the 2013 Terex were held at Phillip Island on the weekend along side of the Australian round of the MotoGp Championship. There is no doubt that the event is one of the best all round two wheeled spectacles going around and were on the ground bouncing between both GP and the SX track.

Threes a Crowd: As unbelievable as it sounds, three different riders held the lead of the SX Open class at Phillip Island over the weekend! Matt Moss came into the weekend with the points lead, but quickly seen it slip away after a big first turn crash in Saturday's main event.

American Weston Peick took full advantage, racing to the round win and in turn took control of the red place until the Phillip Island Red Plate curse kicked in!

Peick suffered a early morning practice crash on Sunday and broke his collarbone ruling him out of action. The rider to capitalise was fellow American Josh Hill, who no doubt grab the red plate and hi tailed it off the Island as fast as possible.

Got to have Faith: - Gavin Faith ensured the Red plate changed hands in the SX Lites class at Phillip Island, taking full advantage of an injury suffered by points leader coming into the double header Luke Styke to charge away to two main events wins and will carry the points lead into the final round at Toowoomba in mid November.

Luke Styke who had a shoulder complaint finished with 3-4 results for the weekend and now sits 5 points behind Faith.
Jay Wilson has not put a foot wrong in the second half of the 2013 season
Wilson Four from Four: - One rider who did not give up his championship lead at Phillip Island was Jay Wilson winning all three rounds contested for the Under 19s class on the Island to add to his Mount Gambier win. He now carries a near unbeatable 22 point lead into the final round in his home state. Behind him three riders are tied on 78 points!

Eve Aussie Women's SX Champ: Meghan Rutledge won 8 of 9 races against an international field to win the inugural Eve Women's Supercross Champonship at Phillip Island, beating home American Jessica Patterson and Japan's Sayaka Kaneshiro.

Monster Energy Cup: The quick break down for those who missed it and if you are one of those people hit up you tube and find the races pronto! All three races were nothing short of EPIC and the junior and amateur races races that need to be seen at all costs!

So what went down! First gate malfunctions, it would not be the MEC with out them!

Ryan Villopoto smashes the field but finishes second in the first race! Well until he reminds Ryan Dungey about the Joker lane, the reaction from Dungey will have you laughing hard for weeks to come.

Race two, one of the best head to head battles between Villopoto and James Stewart you will ever see that ends with Villopoto missing the Joker lane, then two seconds later wadding up big time. Villopoto DNF's Stewart wins and 450 Rookie Ken Roczen heats in to the final race with the points lead!

Race three certainly a little more subdued with Stewart taking the race win and the MEC just has Roczen slipped to fourth on the last lap behind Dungey and Eli Tomac.

Monster Energy cup finishes with RED BULL athletes filling the podium and taking the spoils!

From images seen on Social Networks this week, it looks as though Billy Mackenzie will be back with CDR in 2014, though no conformation at the moment
Let the Rumors and Guessing Games Begin: The 2013 Australian Supercross season is almost over and there really has been little to no movement in where riders will end up for 2013.

Trying to work out what teams will even be around in the MX2 class is even harder to work out than who will even race the class, so this week with nothing else really going on in Australian MX we are going to put together a VERY VERY rough guess on how we could see the MX1 teams heading into 2014.

This is ALL PURE SPECULATION ON MY PART! We have NOT spoken to any Team Managers or Riders regarding next season, though we will be asking a lot more questions once the 2013 season officially ends on November the 16th at Toowoomba.

Until all the teams are 100% confirmed for 2014 we will run this list weekly, then check back in a few months time once all the deals are done and dusted to see how close or how far away are original guesses where.

NOTE - We are not even sure that Husqvarna and / or TM will have official factory teams on the line in 2014, or that any or all of the current naming rights sponsors for the current teams will be in place.

CDR Yamaha: Billy Mackenzie / Jake Moss
Carlton Dry Honda: Hayden Mellross / Cody Cooper
Motorex KTM: Kirk Gibbs / Ford Dale
Motul Pirelli Suzuki: Matt Moss / Sam Martin
Monster Energy Kawasaki: Adam Monea / Kade Mosig
Husqvarna: Jay Marmont / James Booth Elliot
TM: Daniel McCoy

A little Fun: - To make the 2014 team line up guessing game a little more fun, we will organise a prize this week to give away to the person who can get the closest to picking the 2014 Pro Open / MX1 team line ups final team line ups.

It will be ran on our forum and will stay open up until Friday the 1st of November. Head over now and get your selections in.

Who will take out the 2013 GNCC Championship this weekend. Guess we will know soon enough.
GNCC Finale: The 2013 Off-Road season is just about over. The Australian season has been done and dusted for over a month now along with the World Enduro Championships and also the International Six Day Enduro.

America's premier Off-Road Championship will also conclude this weekend with the 19th Annual AMSOIL Ironman GNCC which is set for an epic three-hour battle between Factory FMF/KTM riders Kailub Russell and Charlie Mullins heading into the round separated by just 2 points.

The legendary season finale has become more than just a race, as nearly 10,000 spectators are expected to attend what has arguably become the largest fall festival in Montgomery County.

On the Aussie front, Josh Strang is in position to take the final step of the podium with a strong final round showing, which would top of a great return to full time racing in the class this year.

We can not wait to throw a leg over the all new 2014 Yamaha YZ250F, we loved the new 450 and are sure its smaller brother will be just as good.
TIME TO WIN WITH FULLNOISE AND RHK: Want to win a five bag RHK pack including a full gear bag, Back Pack, Tool Bag and two smaller bags for doing nothing than liking and sharing a photo on facebook. Well if so simply CLICK HERE, LIKE, SHARE and Leave your name in the Comments section to win.

MXTV in Full Flight: MXTV is halfway through their 2013 season of episodes and as always they have steped up again for this year and are producing a first rate show for all dirt bike enthusiasts.

Tune in to Speed TV on Channel 512 on the FOXTEL and AUSTAR networks on Thursday's at 7.30pm and the Free to Air TV4ME at 8.30pm on Thursday's evenings on channel 74 or 64 in regional centres and get ready to HOLD IT ON.

Yamaha's YZ250F is on its way to Australia: We got word this week that the all new Yamaha YZ250F is on its way to Australia in November and we have an invite to the official launch.

It is a bike that we are eagerly awaiting and can't wait to swing a leg over. We also have a guest rider heading along to the launch to give us a hand, a well known rider who has done a few bike launches with us in the past, can't wait to have him back along side us again.

Where has it gone you ask? Well the video section that usual resides at the bottom of Mid Week Moto has become so popular we have given it its own weekly section.

Look for A week in motion to pop up each and every Thursday, show casing the latest video's of the week, and don't forget to check out Video's section at the bottom of the news articles for a selection of the best video's we come across.
