The second night of the 2014 AMSOIL Arenacross, featuring Ricky Carmichael‰Ûªs Road to Supercross, from the DCU Center in Worcester, produced its second winner in as many nights with Motorsport.com/MJM Express/Spinchillers Racing Kawasaki‰Ûªs Michael McDade capturing his first overall win of the season.
McDade put himself at the front of the field to start the first 15-lap Arenacross Class Main Event with Babbitt‰Ûªs Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis‰Ûª Zach Ames and Brewer Cycles Kawasaki‰Ûªs Jacob Hayes in tow.
Reigning champion and opening night winner Tyler Bowers started inside the top five, but crashed on Lap 5 while pushing to the front of the field aboard his Babbitt‰Ûªs Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki. Out front, Ames made a pass for second and needed just one more lap to pass McDade for the lead on Lap 8.
Ames held on for the win, with McDade in second and Massachusetts native Robby Marshall in third aboard his Motorsports Nation KTM. Bowers, who dropped to 13th after his fall, gained one position to finish 12th.
As the winner, Ames had the distinction of picking the inversion for the second Main Event, selecting 8.
Despite the inversion, McDade duplicated his holeshot effort to start the second Main Event, this time with his Motorsport.com/MJM Express/Spinchillers Racing KTM teammates Nathan Skaggs and Willy Browning chasing him. Both Bowers and Ames started deep in the field, but both began to move forward early.
Ames made an impressive pass on multiple riders, including Bowers, and the teammates started a push to the front of the field. Bowers experienced more misfortune about halfway through the 15-lap race and would ultimately finish 14th. Out front, McDade held on for the win to secure the overall, while Browning finished second and Team Faith/FLY Racing KTM‰Ûªs Kelly Smith in third.
McDade (2-1) was joined on the overall podium by Ames (1-5) and Browning (5-2).
In Head-to-Head Bracket Racing action, Bowers took the win to claim a pair of championship bonus points. That combined with his Main Event results landed the defending champion 14th overall. He falls from first to sixth in the Arenacross Class point standings.
Ames assumes control of the early points lead by virtue of his back-to-back runner-up efforts to start the season. His lead over McDade currently sits at just two points.
Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class:
Hillview Motorsports Suzuki‰Ûªs Steve Roman grabbed the victory in the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class Main Event.
In the 18-lap Arenacross Lites Class Main Event, Frontier Lubricants KTM‰Ûªs Daniel Blair assumed the early lead for the first six laps, ultimately giving way Yamaha rider Jacob Williamson to take over the top spot. While out front, Williamson lost traction and went down and gave way to Roman.
Once out front, Roman never relinquished control and held on to take the victory. Traders Racing Kawasaki‰Ûªs Tony Archer overcame misfortune of his own to finish second, with DirtBikeMike KTM‰Ûªs Brandon Glenn in third.
Roman‰Ûªs win moves him into the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class points lead, holding a tight two-point lead over Archer.
AMSOIL Arenacross continues next weekend with second round action from Baltimore and Baltimore Arena for two nights of action.
