Melbourne to host world class supercross event in 2010

Posted:

Melbourne will host the biggest Supercross race ever held outside of the USA when the Monster Energy Super X, the Australasian Supercross Championship, hosts its second round of the 2010 series in Australia‰Ûªs sporting capital on Saturday October 23.

The biggest rider lineup ever assembled outside of the USA includes all of Australia‰Ûªs best and some of the current top five in the world based on the 2010 AMA Supercross and Motocross series, including:

- Chad Reed (AUS); Australia‰Ûªs greatest ever Supercross rider and current AMA world motocross champion
- Kevin Windham (USA); Second overall in this year‰Ûªs AMA World Supercross series
- Davi Millsaps (USA); Third in this year‰Ûªs AMA World Supercross series
- Justin Brayton (USA); Fifth in this year‰Ûªs AMA World Supercross series
- Mike Alessi (USA); Second in the current AMA World Motocross series

The event will be the first Melbourne race for the revolutionary new Supercross series, as well as the first night race in Victoria. Global Action Sports have not announced the location but we believe the Etihad Stadium is one of the venues that is currently being negotiated.

Managing Director of Global Action Sports, Michael Porra, said it is a major coup for the championship and the sport of Supercross in Australasia to be having a race of this magnitude in Melbourne.

‰ÛÏThe Monster Energy Super X has been a huge success since its inception in 2008 and what a way for us to finally take it to the masses of sporting fans in Melbourne.

‰ÛÏI know this will be the biggest Supercross race ever held outside of America with the extraordinary rider lineup heading to Melbourne to compete under lights on a huge US-designed track at a venue to be announced shortly,‰Û
