Meghan Rutledge Wraps Up Stellar 2012 with Geneva SX Win

Posted:

Kawasaki‰Ûªs Meghan Rutledge has cemented herself as a star in Australian MX racing with a highly successful year capped off with victory at the Geneva Supercross last weekend on a Kawasaki KX250F.

17 year old Meghan Rutledge from Picton, NSW won both women‰Ûªs motos during Friday‰Ûªs racing at the Geneva Supercross in Switzerland amongst a star studded field including fellow Kawasaki riders Livia Lancelot from France and American Vicki Golden.

A pair of 2nds on Saturday sealed the victory for Rutledge, crowning her Queen of Geneva SX and handing her her first title on international soil.

The victory in Geneva, in front of international racers like Kawasaki‰Ûªs Gautier Paulin comes after many other successes for Meghan in 2012. Not only did she successfully defend her Australian Women‰Ûªs Motocross Championship crown this year, Meghan also jetted over to the USA to compete with the best in the world in a few rounds of the AMA series where she took a moto win and claimed a round podium.

Meghan was also selected for and competed at X Games in Los Angeles and she finished on the podium at the final round of the World Women‰Ûªs MX Championship in Germany.

It was hard not to take notice of Meghan‰Ûªs rise to prominence in 2012. The industry certainly recognised her achievements with Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine awarding her the Women‰Ûªs Rider of the Year award while Dirt Action Magazine deemed Meghan worthy to receive the coveted Excel Rim Rider of the Year award, an award previously won by eight time national champion Jay Marmont.

Meghan is pleased with what she has achieved this year.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªve accomplished all of my goals for 2012 and more." Rutledge stated. "Racing in Geneva wasn‰Ûªt part of the plan but the opportunity came up so I took advantage of it and came away with a win which makes me speechless.

"I lost to Livia (Lancelot) and Vicki (Golden) at X Games so to come out and beat them just a few months later is unreal because they‰Ûªre the best in the world.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm really looking forwards to what lays ahead in 2013. I‰Ûªm looking forward to racing more overseas with Kawasaki and hopefully finishing top ten in the Under 19s class in Australian motocross.‰Û
