Matt Phillips takes the lead in dusty Round 5 of the AORC

Posted:

Round five of the 2011 Yamaha Australian Off Road Championship has wrapped up in Callington, with Ballard's Yamaha Off-Road rider Matt Phillips taking the outright lead ahead of Daniel Milner (Christensen's Motorcycles) and Stefan Merriman (Ballard's Yamaha Off-Road).

More than 190 competitors took to the South Australian track in dry and dusty conditions for the combined State and National sprint rounds.

Merriman took line honours in the E1 class ahead of Force Accessories Honda rider AJ Roberts and Ballard's Yamaha Off-Road rider Ben Burrell.

The E2 class was thrown wide open during the first sprint of the day, with mechanical issues forcing reigning Champ Toby Price (Motorex KTM) down the ladder. The class was claimed by Daniel Milner of Christensen's Motorcycles ahead of Yamaha's Chris Hollis and Husqvarna's Glenn Kearney.

Tasmanian rider Matt Phillips took out the E3 class, coming home ahead of Motorex KTM's Jarrod Bewley and Husaberg-mounted Geoff Braico.

The Masters class was topped by Trent Lean, followed by Dave Cash and Peter Schaper, with Damian Smith taking out the Veteran's class ahead of Garry Dukes and Adam Schneller.

The Women's class was a sweep of blue, with Yamaha rider and 2009 Champion Jemma Wilson claiming round five honours ahead of fellow Ballard's Yamaha Off-Road rider Jess Gardiner (the reigning Champ) and Yamaha's Emelie Karlsson.

Round six of the Championship kicks into gear on Sunday featuring the action-packed Sprint Format.
