Matt Phillips Headlines 2013 Tasmanian 8 Hour

Posted:

The Tasmanian Endurance Rider's Club's annual 8 hour race is back and with a rich history of interstate competition and the 2013 instalment is not going to disappoint!

Prize money, world class competition and the awesome Loyetea circuit are all beckoning as November the 2nd marks the biggest day on the Tasmanian enduro calendar.

Newly crowned junior world champion, Matt Phillips headlines an impressive list of competitors but to assume Phillips will run away to victory would be to not understand the this iconic event.

Over the past 10 years, lightning fast locals have taken it to the likes of Geoff Ballard, Jehi Willis and International superstar Daniel Milner, denying each of them of victory. With riders being able to compete in teams of two, three or solo (for the brave), the event caters well to all levels of rider ability and fitness.

These team options also bring the element of strategy into play and being the final event on the series calendar, riders at the pointy end of their classes must choose the team option which best fits their ladder position. With Solo riders earning more points for their position than those in pairs (and trio's), a rider's overall placing will be dependant upon a combination of either fitness, speed or partner reliability.

AL.IN Honda mounted Baylee Davies know's this all too well and heads into the 8 hour atop the Ironman points standings. His decision to race solo adds an interesting twist to the series as his closest competition, Lincoln Bird and Nathan Purton have instead opted to race in their own respective pairs. All three riders are yet to take home the coveted Ironman title.

The locals won't have it all their own way however with the inclusion of KTM hot shot Tom Mason, enduro icon Damien Smith and an impressive Andrew Wilksch, all of whom could have serious effects on the overall results. Add to this the inclusion of all star women's pairing Sophie Coldicutt and Tayla Jones and you have an event that won't be forgotten for some time to come.

With R!DE HQ set to comprehensively cover the event, all Tasmanian rider's are urged to grab their mates and come along to one of Tasmania's biggest motor sport events. Cheap entries, world class racing and an awesome family atmosphere ensure that the TERC 8 hour is a must see!
