Mat Fabry leads the way for Wellard GYTR Yamaha Motocross Team

Posted:

As the Wellard/GYTR/Yamaha team converged on the Shrubland Park circuit in Bunbury, WA, Mother Nature also sent two storm fronts to greet them.

With overnight rain and destructive winds that made the pits look like a scrap metal dealer with the amount of destroyed Quickshades the sun came out the next morning like nothing had happened.

With little more than remnants of the night before the deep sand absorbed the massive deluge and the scene was set for a great days racing.

Mat Fabry (Five Star Yamaha) was intent on staking his claim to both Championships on offer and set about doing exactly that. Still suffering from a hip and back issues, Fabry is far from being 100% and toughed out the deep Bunbury sand to take a clean sweep in the 125cc class and go 2, 2, 1 aboard his YZF250.

‰ÛÏI managed to get good starts in all my races which made things a lot easier than riding through the pack so I am really happy with the results. I did what I had to do and got the job done which means I am now leading in the 125 and 250F championships‰Û
Jake Turner (Mandurah City Yamaha) was plagued with small issues
85cc Big Wheel rider Kaj Radcliffe (Cully‰Ûªs Yamaha) is really beginning to gel with his Yamaha machine and new team.

The 2000 kilometre round trip to race every state round does not seem to affect Radcliffe who put in three solid Moto‰Ûªs, highlight with a third in Moto two. Primed for a good overall result the treacherous sand of Shrubland Park reached up and grabbed him in the last when he lost focus for just a moment and crashed, unfortunately he could only manage a tenth after remounting but his spirits were still high.

With the reasonable weekend Radcliffe has moved into fourth outright in the championship chase and is only just a handful of points from third.

‰ÛÏI have only raced here once before at the Nationals in 2015 and we don‰Ûªt get much sand like this around Carnarvon where I come from. So to have a pretty good ride today was pleasing. Radcliffe commented.

‰ÛÏI am really starting to feel at home within the team and know the results will come as we go. We are heading into Manjimup which is a standalone event but one I really love doing, so I want to do well there and have a fun weekend‰Û
