The Pro Open line up for round eight of the Australian Motocross Championship heading to Wonthaggi on July 22, will see some changes with the usual front runners battling for a podium, giving Motorex KTM racer Jay Marmont a closer shot at catching Championship leader Daniel Reardon. Riding the KTM 450 SX-F, Marmont has been chasing down Kawasaki Racing team's Daniel Reardon and second placed runner Daryl Hurley throughout the season, yet in a huge upset to the Pro Open Championship, Hurley will be unable to compete at Wonthaggi after the Shift Motul Suzuki rider broke his collarbone last week. Knowing only too well how quickly injury can take away a chance of winning a Championship, Motorex KTM racer Marmont who is placed third in the Pro Open, expressed disappointment for his motocross rival who has kept him pushing hard all season. ‰ÛÏInjury has pulled me out of many Championships and even challenged my factory ride in the USA, but it comes with the sport and we need to bounce back, like I know Daryl Hurley will, said Marmont. ‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm really disappointed for Daryl and for the Championship itself. I was enjoying battling with him every week, he was pushing me to a level I needed to regain confidence after returning from my own injuries. ‰ÛÏWith Daryl out I am now closer to moving into second for the Pro Open Championship to hopefully chase down Daniel Reardon. The last round was the closest I have come to battling with Reardon, and I‰Ûªm determined before the season is out to beat him in a race. ‰ÛÏI‰Ûªll have some new competition this weekend though with Cheyne Boyd and Craig Anderson returning to racing. They have both been off the bike for most of the season so I do have race and bike time over them, but they‰Ûªre both very experienced on sandy tracks and have both performed well at Wonthaggi, so they can‰Ûªt be ruled out of a podium. ‰ÛÏI‰Ûªve been putting in some long training hours in preparation for Wonthaggi to find sandy tracks to practice on. Some days I have had to drive five hours from home just to find similar conditions to Wonthaggi, but that‰Ûªs how determined I am to be at the top of my game come July 22 for the next race.‰Û
