Marcel Schrotter Wraps Up Moto2 Final Test On Top

Posted:

The Tech3 Racing Team completed the final pre season outing with determined performances by both riders in the three day test which was hindered with rain falling on every day.

All of the nine sessions were deemed wet, with the exception of the first one on Wednesday which was dry albeit with damp patches on the asphalt. Here, both riders evaluated the conditions and opted to wait for a dry track in order to avoid any risks.

Ricky Cardus eventually rode in this session, yet a red flag was issued due to a crash by another rider which prevented Cardus from taking advantage of the drying track.

Nevertheless, Marcel Schrotter put on a strong display to complete 96 laps around the Jerez circuit as he used the wet track to find a good feeling for a possible damp race this year. The young German's efforts saw him finish the last day in first position as he posted a top time of 1'55.243 which was the fastest lap in the wet by any Moto2 rider at the test.

Furthermore, his performance highlighted the potential of the Mistral 610 for this year, especially in damp conditions, which he will ride in the tightly contested intermediate class. Schrotter̥s encouraging display this week leaves him highly positive for the 2015 battle and confident of beating his run to 10th in the championship last year.

"Even though this test was wet, I was able to build up a good amount of confidence from the first turn of the wheel on the opening day." Schrotter explained. "I felt very comfortable on the Mistral with every run I did, so I am convinced that we improved significantly from this point of view. Furthermore, we confirmed our potential in wet conditions as we set the fastest time today.

"It's a pity that we were not able to get some dry track time under our belts as we still have plenty of things to try, which means that we will have a busy schedule as soon as we arrive in Qatar.

"We weren't able to run one dry lap during these three days and yesterday when the conditions were at their best, we decided that it would have been quite risky to go out, so we opted to stay in the box. Now, I just have to carry the positive feeling from here to Qatar, where I will give it my all to begin the season positively and hopefully there wont be any inconveniences."

Meanwhile, Ricky Cardus made the most of the damp weather conditions which affected the Moto2 test in Southern Spain to show his speed in the wet, similarly to his teammate. The Spanish rider completed 67 laps across the three days with a highlight of finishing 2nd in the sixth session with a lap time of 1'55.721.

On the last day, the rain continued to fall but the Spaniard powered onwards to produce a lap of 1'56.893 and finish in fourth place on the day. His hard work refining the wet setup of the Mistral 610 was rewarding and leaves him fully optimistic of a solid charge to a top points scoring finish at the first race under the floodlights next week in Qatar.
