The second round of the Suzuki Gixxer Cup Championship at the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai, India at the weekend saw full-grids of riders, exciting racing and an enthusiastic crowd of spectators.
Such was the huge popularity of the new Gixxer Cup series, the novice category had to be split into two qualifying groups to determine a final grid of the top 20 riders.
The Gixxer SF motorcycles continue to receive very positive feedback from the riders, not only because of their exceptional handling characteristics and looks, but because of their leading lap-times around the circuit.
Saturday and Sunday provided spectacular closely-fought racing for both podium-positions and also mid-field positions. The Novice riders had an amazing fight for the top-four positions, with the podium finishers from Round 1 scoring the same positions in both their races.
The Open races were equally thrilling, with the first race having a lead group of four riders regularly swapping places in the fight for the podium, and chased home by another tight group of seven riders. The second race saw equally exciting racing, but with a couple of crashes ‰ÛÒ without serious injuries - and a race restart that witnessed even-more passing and close racing.
Chennai also welcomed the only female racer - Swetha - to the Gixxer Cup series, showing the new series‰Ûª popularity and appeal for all motorcycle racers in India.
The third round of the Suzuki Gixxer Cup is scheduled to be held on the weekend of the August 7-9th at the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai.
