Kyron Bacon, Josh Green, Andy Wilksch And Jess Gardiner On Top 2022 Australian Off-Road Championship Round 10

Kyron Bacon extended his lead in the E1 class with another win at round ten.

The penultimate weekend of the 2022 Australian Off-Road Championship saw Australia’s internationally renowned riders once again fight through varying conditions at Round 10 at Kingston SE, South Australia.

Claiming the fastest overall time for Round 10, E1 superstar Kyron Bacon just couldn’t be beaten, regardless of tough tracks and unpredictable weather. For the second day in a row. The Seniors tackled one of two tests, while the Juniors had their own special test.

E1
Kyron Bacon clocked in another consecutive E1 class win plus the fastest overall time of the day of 59:02.532! The Tasmanian rider seemed to be a changed man compared to yesterday, pushing hard to create a strong Championship lead. Korey McMahon remained cool, calm, and collected all day, regardless of the tests which were hard on both mind and body. After six laps, McMahon claimed second place with a total time of 1:00:17.587. Rounding out the E1 podium was Cooper Sheidow, who had a fantastic weekend. With a total time of 1:00:41.270, Sheidow has further cemented his spot in the E1 Championship.

If you had an injured hand, racing Enduro wouldn’t be high on your list, would it? Not for Shop Yamaha Offroad Racing Team’s Josh Gree’. The Yamaha household name gave Kingston SE everything he had, to claim the Round 10 win. With the addition of this weekend’s points, he continues to push out his lead in the E2 Championship. Rounding out the E2 podium was Fraser Higlett and Riley Graham. Round 10 marks Higlett’s second podium for the 2022 season, with today’s results hopefully catapulting his drive as we head into the final rounds of the Championship. Graham had a fantastic weekend and was a very welcome face returning to the AORC paddock. Higlett and Graham finished Round 10 with respective times of 1:01:37.288 and 1:03:26.349.

Although yesterday was perfect in every way for Andy Wilksch, today proved to be a struggle as he fought his bike through very tight and technical tests. One test offered up strict ruts to follow with a keen need to use your whole body to move forward and stay upright. After six laps, Wilksch finished with a total time of 59:14.070. Jonte Reynders had another strong day, landing his consecutive podium spot with a total time of 59:57.378. The Tasmanian local will now return home to gear up for an exciting final two Rounds, with a keen desire to show everyone how great the Tasmanian terrain is. Bronze was won once again taken by Jye Dickson, with a total time of 1:01:19.378. Considering his new experience in Enduro, his results are extremely exciting in demonstrating his prowess in this discipline.

EW
100 podiums is an enormous achievement and notching up consecutive EW wins this weekend is the extra cherry on top. Jess Gardiner finished Round 10 with a total time of 1:08:28.923. Behind Gardiner in second place once again this weekend, was Emelie Karlsson. Today’s racing was hard on mind and body but she remained consistent, clocking in after six laps with a time of 1:13:43.575. Rounding out the EW Round 10 podium was Taylor Thompson, who finished today with a total time of 1:19:06.228.

EJ
The EJ podium for Round 10 was an exciting one to witness, as Riley McGillivray, Will Dennett and Billy Hargy all pushed hard all day for valuable seconds. After six laps of the test track though, McGillivray just couldn’t be beat, stretching to nearly 10 seconds ahead of Dennett. Dennett conceded for second place, marking a consecutive silver podium with a total time of 1:01:05.355. Third place was once again won by Husqvarna’s Billy Hargy, with a total time of 1:02:56.055.2022 AORC Round 10 E1 Top 5 Provisional Results:

EM (Masters)
John Baker reclaimed the gold in EM today, after falling to fourth place yesterday. With a total time of 1:14:56.949, Baker created a strong lead ahead of his competition, by nearly one minute. The test tracks also pushed our EM class to the limit, as everyone worked to remain both upright and focused. Peter Rudd jumped up to second place for Round 10, beating Michael Widdison to the silver by over one minute. Widdison conceded to third place, with a total time of 1:17:02.204.

EV (Veterans)
It was glory for Lee Stephens, as he reclaimed his first-place podium spot in EV. The Offroad Advantage test served as the perfect landscape for Stephens to claim back first. With a total time of 1:10:23.020, Stephens successfully pushed ahead of Christopher Thomas, who settled for second. With just over 16 seconds between first and second, Round 10 demonstrated just how intense the action gets in EV. Stealing away the final podium spot was yesterday’s victor, Rowan Pumpa. Sunday just wasn’t his day it seemed, as he finished seven laps with a total time of 1:11:04.433.

J4
Round 10’s podium was a mirror of Round 9, with Jett Yarnold once again claiming the coveted gold. Even with the tough and technical test to navigate, as well as unpredictable weather, Yarnold just couldn’t be beaten as he finished five laps with a time of 47:19.696. Silver was awarded to Davey Gear, who finished today with a total time of 48:48.386. Behind Gear in third was Eli Tripcony, with a time of 51:20.833.

Unpredictable weather? Tough, tricky tracks? Not a worry when you’re Danielle McDonald! The Yamaha JG rider continues to comfortably maintain her Championship lead, securing another first-place win. After five laps of the test, McDonald finished with a total time of 53:20.388. Rounding out the JG podium for Round 10 were Madi Simpson and Audrey Moller, with respective total times of 56:04.498 and 1:05:15.219.

J3
It was back-to-back wins for J3’s Ollie Gear, with the tough and technical conditions serving them well. After five laps, Gear won the day with a total time of 51:40.941. Rounding out the J3 podium for Round 10 were Will McInnes and Lachlan Metcalf, with respective times of 51:52.467 and 52:14.538.

J2
It was the perfect weekend for Mason Phillips as they claimed a consecutive J2 class win! With a total time of 53:20.838, Phillips finished just shy of 40 seconds ahead of Oscar Harris. After five laps, Harris rode into second place with a total time of 53:59.359. Third was won by Jesse Ryan, finishing today’s tough racing with a total time of 54:48.306.

J1
It has been a fantastic weekend for Harley Hutton, as he claimed another impressive and undisputed J1 win with a total time of 33:51.968. With nearly two minutes separating first and second place, Hutton is proving that he is one to watch as he moves up through the AORC ranks. The action in J1 was between Nate Munro and Chase Weston, with nearly 20 seconds separating the two. Munro finished five laps with a total time of 35:41.825 and second place, while Weston conceded for third.

JJ
The tough tests served Hudson Wilson nicely today, as they claimed a consecutive JJ first-place win! With a total time of 43:43.082, Wilson produced over a one-minute lead from the rest of his competition. Rounding out the JJ Round 10 podium was Austin Schulz and Tao Letton, with total times of 45:01.691 and 45:35.678, respectively.

The conclusion of the 2022 Championship now heads further south to Wynyard, Tasmania for the series finale, Rounds 11 & 12 from October 8-9.
