Kyron Bacon took advantage of a break in the AORC calendar to make his debut in the Portugal round of the 2023 FIM World Enduro Championships (EnduroGP) in Europe.

After recovering his form following a three-month injury layoff, Bacon decided it was the perfect time to challenge himself against the world’s elite off-road riders.

Bacon participated in the Junior division, specifically designed for riders under 23. This class further divides into E1 for 250cc riders and an All-Powers division, ensuring a high level of competition.

Across the event’s rounds, Bacon secured a spot on the podium in the Junior E1 class with 3rd and 2nd-place results. Although he had a slower start during the Friday prologue, he quickly found his pace during the races, placing himself in the midst of the fierce competition.

These achievements translated to 4th and 3rd place finishes in the combined Junior division, marking an impressive weekend for the Tasmanian rider. Bacon extended his stay in Portugal for another week to compete in the next round of the World Enduro Championship.

Reflecting on his experience, Bacon mentioned, “I had initially planned to come over earlier in the season to test the waters, but my injury prevented that. I examined the calendar, and this weekend’s opportunity aligned perfectly. I’d like to express my gratitude to Yamaha, both here and in Australia, for their support in making this experience possible.”

With another week ahead, Bacon aims to build on his valuable experience from the previous weekend and inch closer to the front of the pack before returning home to compete in the final round of AORC at Dungog.
