Kyle Webster claimed the MX1 overall at Gillman with a strong 1-2 scorecard to close the gap in the championship standings by 2 points.

Round three of the 2026 ProMX Championship at Gillman, SA, had all the ingredients of a mid-season turning point, with defending MX1 champion Kyle Webster striking back for a crucial overall win, and championship leader Jed Beaton responding with trademark resilience in a tightly fought MX1 battle.

Across the other classes, the MX2 and MX3 categories also delivered standout performances, with strong showings from the Honda Racing Australia and Yamaha-supported squads contributing to a hotly contested day of racing across South Australia.

With conditions holding up well despite overcast skies and a fresh track layout, the Gillman circuit produced close racing across all classes, while championship battles tightened heading into Toowoomba later this month.

MX1

The premier MX1 class once again came down to the familiar protagonists, with regular front-runners Kyle Webster and Jed Beaton trading blows across the two motos.

The opening moto initially belonged to four-time champion Dean Ferris, who grabbed the holeshot and set the early pace, controlling proceedings until the race slipped away from him just before the closing stages with a mechanical issue that ended his charge four laps from the finish.

That opened the door for Webster, who worked his way into the lead to claim his first moto win of the season and extend his strong Gillman record, while Wilson Todd and Beaton, who was riding with a little damage due to a small crash, followed through the order alongside Aaron Tanti and Nathan Crawford in a tightly packed leading group.

MX1 Championship leader Jed Beaton responded to pressure with a 3-1 moto scorecard at Gillman, maintaining his MX1 lead despite losing ground to Kyle Webster.

Beaton responded in style in Moto Two, flipping the script with a dominant ride after shadowing Webster early before making a decisive pass and pulling away. The Yamaha rider controlled the second outing to take a clear win and halt Webster’s momentum at the venue.

Behind them, Crawford took third in the moto from Todd, Tanti and Ferris, with Todd Waters and Regan Duffy further back in the top ten fight.

When the scores were tallied, Webster’s 1-2 was enough to secure the overall round win, trimming Beaton’s championship lead to 12 points heading into round four.

Wilson Todd put together a much more complete MX1 ride o secure third overall, running solid pace across both motos and showing improved consistency as he continues to rebuild his season momentum.

Beaton now leads the MX1 standings on 145 points from Webster on 133, with Tanti, Todd and Waters rounding out the top five in the series fight.

Webster said the win came down to executing clean motos after early-season inconsistency.

“I’m happy to take the win, but we still have work to do,” Webster admitted. “The speed has been there all season, but mistakes have hurt me. I probably rode too conservatively this weekend, trying not to make errors, and that stopped me from riding naturally and aggressively.”

Beaton, meanwhile, admitted the opening race crash cost him momentum but was satisfied to rebound strongly. “It was another good weekend, just a shame I fell in the first race, but that’s how it goes sometimes,” Beaton said. “It was nice to get straight back on the horse and win the second moto.”

Wilson Todd also returned to the podium for the first time this season with third overall.

“It’s my best result of the year, but I’m still frustrated because I know where I want to be,” said Todd. “Fitness doesn’t come back overnight after injury. We’re improving, but there’s still a lot of work ahead.”

Alex Larwood dominated the MX2 class with a perfect clean sweep at Gillman to reclaim the red plate and strengthen his championship lead in front of his home crowd.

MX2

The MX2 class belonged to Alex Larwood, who delivered a perfect day in front of home fans with two commanding moto wins and a clean sweep that further strengthened his championship position.

Larwood was untouchable in Moto One, controlling the race from the front and stretching away to a comfortable margin while Byron Dennis settled into second after working his way forward early. Behind them, a strong battle for third unfolded between Dylan Walsh and Noah Ferguson, with Walsh ultimately securing the final podium spot in that moto.

Moto two followed a similar pattern, with Ryder Kingsford grabbing the holeshot and briefly holding the lead before Larwood again asserted control and pulled clear. Dennis completed another consistent ride in third, while Souya Nakajima impressed with a solid charge into the podium positions late in the race.

Byron Dennis delivered a consistent 2-3 scorecard in MX2 to finish second overall and remain firmly in the championship fight behind Alex Larwood.

Further back, Ferguson, Madoc Dixon, Ryan Alexanderson and Kayd Kingsford completed a competitive top group, with the latter pushing through discomfort to bank valuable points.

Larwood’s perfect 1-1 scorecard not only secured him the round win but also saw him reclaim the MX2 red plate, extending his championship lead to 130 points over Dennis on 120, with Walsh and Kayd Kingsford still firmly in contention.

Larwood reflected on a significant home-state performance, crediting the team’s steady progress and support system after a difficult injury run in recent seasons.

“It’s nice, it’s all coming together,” said Larwood. “The bike, the team, everything. It’s easy for people to forget the injuries I’ve had in the past, but I’ve been fortunate to have great people stick by me. It’s nice to reward everyone like this.”

Dennis secured his third consecutive MX2 podium with second overa;; via a 2-3 scorecard.

We stacked some good points at Gillman, tried to put our best foot forward, and ended with 2-3 moto scores. Both the riding and the bike felt good, just a couple of little tweaks needed on my side, and we’ll get to the top step!” Dennis said.

Third placed for the round, Ryder Kingsford felt the team’s preparation was beginning to pay dividends.

“We’ve been extremely focused on improving,” said Kingsford. “We raced and tested here a few weeks ago, and it was clear we had made progress.”

Heath Fisher delivered a breakthrough MX3 performance with a clean sweep of both motos to secure the overall win at Gillman.

MX3

The MX3 class saw a breakthrough performance from Heath Fisher, who produced a clean sweep of both motos to take a dominant overall win and inject serious momentum into his championship push. Jackson Fuller finished a point ahead of Haden Draper courtesy of 7-2 moto scores to claim second overall for the round.

Fisher, racing for Honda Racing Australia, controlled both 20-minute-plus-one-lap motos with authority, showing improved pace and consistency after a disrupted injury period in recent seasons.

“We haven’t stopped racing or training,” Fisher explained. “I’ve done six races before and during the nationals, trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible. We still aren’t where we want to be physically. I got tired in both motos, but I’m happy with the direction we’re heading.

“We still have ten point-scoring races remaining, and while we’ve moved to second in the championship, there’s still a gap to first. We have a plan, and we’ll keep building.”

Photo of motocross rider Hayden Draper at round three of the 2026 ProMX Championships at Gillman , SA
Hayden Draper salvaged third overall in MX3 at Gillman with a 2-8 scorecard, maintaining his championship lead despite a difficult second moto.

Championship leader Hayden Draper fought through an eventful day to finish third overall after going 2-8, maintaining his points lead despite a challenging second moto that included a mid-race incident while battling teammate Jack Deveson.

Draper had looked strong early in the opening race, holding second and applying pressure at the front before Fisher’s pace proved too strong. In race two, a poor start and a collision during a fight back through the field forced Draper into recovery mode, limiting damage to eighth.

“It wasn’t the weekend I was after,” Draper admitted. “I raced here last year at the Junior Nationals, and although the track has been changed, I knew the dirt and felt confident I could get a good result at this round.

“When I came together with Jack, I hit my arm pretty good, so I will need to get that looked it but it doesn’t feel too bad at the moment.

“It wasn’t to be, but I still lead the championship and will learn from today,” he concluded.

Deveson finished fifth overall with consistent 5-6 results, showing flashes of speed but unable to break into podium contention in either race.

Despite the shake-up, Draper remains the leader of the MX3 standings on 130 points, ahead of Fisher on 108 and Riley Burgess on 106, keeping the title fight alive heading into the next round.

Ryder Madafiglio took the MX65 Futures overall victory with consistent 1-2 moto results in a strong showing at Gillman.

MX65 Futres

The MX65 Futures class saw Ryder Madafiglio deliver the standout performance, combining 1-2 moto results to secure the overall win and top points haul for the round.

Madafiglio was strong from the outset in moto one, controlling the race before a tight battle for the minor podium positions behind him saw Blake Regan and Rowdy Rabjones separated by just seconds.

In moto two, Madafiglio again took the early lead before slipping back to third mid-race, only to recover and fight back into second behind a fast-finishing Ollie Cale, who stormed to the moto win.

The overall classification saw Madafiglio finish ahead of Cale and Hudson Francis, with tight margins reflecting another competitive Futures field.

Across all classes, Gillman tightened the ProMX narrative heading toward the mid-season stretch, with Beaton and Webster locked in a MX1 duel, Larwood asserting control in MX2, Draper still holding MX3 momentum despite Fisher’s breakout win, and a growing Futures field continuing to develop depth across junior ranks.

Round four heads to Toowoomba on May 24, where hilly hardpack conditions are expected to bring another shift in form across all categories.
