After a tumultuous period marked by financial instability and restructuring, Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM AG is showing strong signs of recovery.
In the first half of 2025, the company reported global sales exceeding 100,000 motorcycles, signalling a significant turnaround from the challenges faced in the previous year.
In late 2024, KTM AG entered self-administration under Austrian insolvency laws to address mounting debts totalling €2.9 billion (approximately $4.75 billion AUD). The restructuring process aimed to stabilize the company’s finances and operations. By November 2024, KTM had filed for court restructuring due to liquidity problems, with creditors expected to receive 30% of their claims in cash by May 2025.
A pivotal development in KTM’s recovery was the strategic intervention by India’s Bajaj Auto. Bajaj, a long-time stakeholder in KTM, announced plans in May 2025 to take control of the company through an €800 million (approximately $1.435 billion AUD) debt package. This move aimed to revive KTM’s operations and restore financial stability.
CEO Gottfried Neumeister expressed optimism about the company’s resurgence:
“The last six months have shown that the support of the motorcycle community for the KTM brand is unbroken. Our innovative spirit, our unique know-how, and our passion are responsible for our strong market position—over 100,000 motorcycles sold in a challenging first half of the year show that our bikes remain popular all over the world and that we are back on the right track.”
With inventories reduced and the supply chain reactivated, KTM is also intensifying recruitment efforts both in Austria and internationally, seeking qualified specialists and managers to support its growth trajectory.
As KTM focuses on customer satisfaction, quality, and sustainable success, the company is actively involving customers through initiatives like “Orange Blood” and the “Orange Board,” aiming to drive practical innovations and adapt to industry trends.
The successful sales figures in the first half of 2025 underscore KTM’s resilience and the effectiveness of its restructuring efforts, positioning the company for a robust future in the global motorcycle market.
