KTM’s Ivan Long And Tye Simmonds Kick Off 2015 At Deep Well

Posted:

While Toby Price has been granted a very well-deserved weekend off after his spectacular debut podium in the world's biggest off-road race, his KTM Off-Road Racing Team mates Ivan Long and Tye Simmonds will begin the season in the deep end, tackling what is possibly the hottest and hardest motocross race in the world - the annual Deep Well Motocross.

Seventy kilometres south from Alice Springs along the track to Finke, Deep Well plays host to an annual event which over its long history has come to represent possibly the most challenging stand-alone motocross race an Australian racer can find.

The single most important reason is the heat, with January temperatures in this part of the desert commonly stretching closer to 50 than 40å¡, and riders being subjected to three 35- to 40- minute motos in heavy sand.

KTM‰Ûªs Ivan Long is the defending deep well champion, after he won the event on his KTM 450 practice bike in 2014. The South Australian tractor mechanic will return this year with the number one plate and his 500 EXC desert racing bike, to give himself the best possible chance against stiff opposition, some of which could come from his brand-new team mate Tye Simmonds.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm definitely looking forward to this." Long admitted. "There is going to be some good talent out there, so it‰Ûªs going to be pretty exciting. It won't be easy, but I'm up for a challenge, I think it's a pretty cool race, especially this time of the year when it's stinking hot up there, and with the amount of rain they‰Ûªve had up there, it's going to be pretty different.

"Race day is going to be about 45, so it will be important to get a good start. It took me about five goes to win it, so hopefully we can keep it within the KTM family. I've never raced against my new team mate Tye Simmonds before, so it will be pretty cool to race beside him. I haven‰Ûªt met him or anything yet, I only know what he looks like because of Facebook!‰Û
