KTM Line up ready to tackle 2013 Hattah Desert Race

Posted:

Motorex KTM Off Road Racing Team riders Chris Hollis and Ben Burrell will share a well-deserved rest day today with Motorex KTM HSE racing star Ben Grabham in the lead-up to the weekend‰Ûªs KTM Hattah Desert Race.

On the back of a punishing AORC round in South Australia‰Ûªs Coonawarra region, Hollis and Burrell completed three days of testing to prepare for the famous Hattah race, which takes place south of Mildura in Victoria.

Hosted by the North West Victorian Motorcycle Club, the KTM Hattah Desert Race is recognised as one of the toughest and most popular off-road races on the calendar.

Competitors will race eight laps of a 38-kilometre course which boasts monster sand whoops, technical slower sections and ultra high speed straights.

KTM was able to take out once class in the 2012 edition of the event, with Ben Burrell winning the class for up to 250cc Four Stroke machines, a feat he is looking to repeat again this year.

‰ÛÏI won the class here last year in my first time as a senior so that‰Ûªs the goal again." Burrell stated. It‰Ûªs a hard, gruelling race here, the little 250 will be revving its head off chasing the big bores, but I don‰Ûªt like going too fast, so the 250 class is the perfect speed for me!‰Û

Last year Motorex KTM rider Toby Price monstered the field, while other previous winners include Motorex KTM team manager and six-time Aussie Enduro Champ Brad Williscroft as well as Ben Grabham.

Grabham joined Hollis and Burrell for yesterday‰Ûªs testing while his Motorex KTM HSE team mate Matt Fish will arrive tomorrow to make a four-pronged senior attack.

KTM will also represent in the Junior and Women‰Ûªs ranks, with stars of the future Wade Carter and Callum Norton looking to extend their list of Hattah victories and two-time Aussie motocross champion Kristy Gillespie also in top form, as they all share track with their Motorex KTM Junior Team Manager Glenn Macdonald.

‰ÛÏYesterday was a busy one for mechanics, who get their final chance to care for the bikes prior to handing over to the scrutineers tomorrow." Motorex KTM Off-Road Team Manager Brad Williscroft explained. "Hattah is just an awesome race; tough, and with 400 bikes out there, the track gets really chopped up and challenging to get into the flow of because it changes every lap.

"It‰Ûªs one of those races that people really seem to get hooked on," he added.

Two of the teams riders in Chris Hollis and Ben Grabham are looking forward to the event that both missed out on racing in 2012. While Grabham missed the event as he recovered from some serious injuries, Hollis did in fact start the just under 200km race, but was cleaned out in the first 500 metres of the race and was lucky to walk away with some minor injuries.

‰ÛÏI was out of the race in the first 500 metres last year so I still don‰Ûªt know what‰Ûªs out there in the wilderness, but having Grabbo in your corner helps a lot." Hollis explained. "I‰Ûªve switched to the 450SXF with the taller gearing, bigger tank and the steering damper so the last few days I‰Ûªve been testing and getting used to the speed again.

"I‰Ûªve had five good solid days in the saddle so it‰Ûªs time to put the feet up now and rest for the race.‰Û
