Kirk Gibbs with a strong second moto showing in home state race

Motorex KTM racer Kirk Gibbs showed he is a genuine MX1 contender with a gritty second moto fourth place finish after a puncture put a dampener on the start of his day at Murray Bridge on the weekend at the second round of the MX Nationals.

Gibbs who made the move up to the MX1 class for this season, struggled with a shoulder injury at the opening round at Raymond Terrace two weeks ago. Returning to his home state for round two and feeling fighting fit, Gibbs started the day well with a 7th place qualifying effort.

Race one got off to the worst possible start for the rider from Mount Gambier as he was left on the ground in the first turn, then to make matters worse suffered a puncture, eventually finishing outside the top 20.

The MX1 rookie regrouped and came out all guns blazing in moto 2, building on a lightning start to claim a brilliant and well-deserved fourth place.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªll look at the positives today, which was my second race." Gibbs stated at the end of the day. "I‰Ûªm really happy and I‰Ûªll keep moving forward with that momentum.

"I was pretty disappointed after the first, but once I got going I felt like I was riding well, so I knew that as long as I could start well things would turn out okay," he added.

"I felt like I had good lines and just rode smart, and if I got passed I wouldn‰Ûªt ride over the top to keep up. I just rode my own race and held my lines and picked up on different ones as they emerged. This race was really good for my confidence.

"I know the guys have a lot of faith in me and today I showed what I can do if I get a start. The shoulder didn't bother me at all today, I put in 30 minutes solid on a rough track and there was no arm pump or anything.‰Û
