South Australian Motocross and Supercross star Kirk Gibbs has been sidelined from this weekend Wayville Supercross after a practice crash earlier this week.

Gibbs who sealed the 2015 Australian Motocross Championship at Coolum with the KTM Australia Racing Team at the end of August has confirmed the unfortunate news this evening via his facebook fan page.

"Unfortunately I crashed yesterday at the practice track and ended up in hospital with a couple of breaks in my hip which is pretty painful." His post read.

"I'm so bummed because I felt like things where starting to click more with an couple of solid weeks under my belt, sorry to KTM and team, sponsors, family, friends, all my supporters and most of all this girl who has to look after me fall out for the next 6 weeks, he added in a post that included a picture of his girl friend by his side in hospital.

Gibbs showed good form in the opeing two rounds of the Australian supercross championship, finishing the opening round at Bathurst in 4th position and was in a podium position at round two at Jimboomba before being taken out after a mistake by championship leader Matt Moss left them both on the ground.

Gibbs was able to recover to finish fifth and was certain to be a podium threat in his home race this coming Saturday night.

"I hate this but [we have a] good break now and recovery to come back hungrier for 2016!" Gibbs ended.

South Australia will still be well represented as supercross action returns to the Wayville showgrounds this Saturday evening, with a handful of local riders joining South Aussie star SD3 Husqvarna pairing of Brett Metcalfe and Luke Arbon when action kicks off from 3pm.
