Motorex KTM riders Daniel McCoy and Kirk Gibbs will share billing with the likes of Rossi, Lorenzo and Marquez as the Terex Australian Supercross Championship visits this weekend‰Ûªs Australian Grand Prix at the Victorian Phillip Island circuit.
With a Saturday evening and a Sunday afternoon double-header show, the team will have two chances to harvest Aussie championship points before a somewhat more diverse crowd of motorcycle racing fans than normal.
Cleared of a punctured lung last weekend at Mt.Gambier but still carrying a cracked rib and plenty of bruising, Aussie motocross number five Kirk Gibbs will have to deal with plenty of pain if he‰Ûªs to face the Phillip Island starter.
However, the gritty South Australian is determined to go after more experience and more points in his first year in the premier class so it‰Ûªs unlikely he‰Ûªll be anywhere but on that start line.
‰ÛÏThe goal was to win in Mt. Gambier and in trying to do so I took some risks that didn‰Ûªt come off." Gibbs admitted. "When that happens, you end up fighting up from the back and that‰Ûªs when things go wrong.
"I‰Ûªve got a sore neck and back and I‰Ûªm pretty stiff but I should be pretty right. There‰Ûªs no major risk so I‰Ûªve just got to get a clearance from Race Safe on the morning and then I should be good.
"I‰Ûªm not scaling back expectations because of this, I just want to go there and ride well. If I can do that I‰Ûªll be happy. Being at the GP is great, I love watching it on the TV and to see it in real life and the speeds they travel is pretty crazy.‰Û
