Kirk Gibbs Gets 2015 Underway With Race Wins And Podiums At Woodville GP

Posted:

KTM Motocross Racing Team rider Kirk Gibbs has become the first international rider in 25 years to win New Zealand‰Ûªs Woodville Grand Prix, after the Queensland based rider took the day‰Ûªs stand-alone main event from defending champion Cody Cooper.

Gibbs, as well as KTM Motocross Racing Team mate Luke Styke and MX2 rider Caleb Ward, travelled the team's traditional early-season route to New Zealand to begin its build up for the Australian MX Nationals championship, which begins on March 29 at Horsham in Victoria.

Gibbs, who only returned to bike training two weeks ago, gated fourth, but used his KTM 450 SX-F to run down and overtake Cooper on the last lap of the feature race.

‰ÛÏI have felt good when I've been riding the bike lately, so I did have some pretty reasonable expectations coming in here this weekend." Gibbs stated. "It's the first time I haven't carried an injury through my off-season for the last five years, so I‰Ûªve been working on base fitness, and it feels like it's already starting to pay off.

"I‰Ûªve got things to work on after today like my starts to get me into that front group, but I felt like I rode smart today, so I'm happy to go away in one piece and I‰Ûªm just looking forward to building and getting stronger.‰Û
