Kids fair a big hit for Honda backed policeman

Posted:

Senior Constable Rod Lay loves competing on his Honda sponsored CRF450, but he is also just as passionate about teaching young kids how to ride safe. The Yackandandah policeman recently attended the Wodonga Children's Fair in Victoria where 12,000 people were treated to a feast of great shows, activities and displays including Lay‰Ûªs competition bike. "The emergency services had their equipment on display including the SES, CFA and Police," Lay explained. "I took part in the police display, which included a booze bus and pursuit car, as well as my Police CRF450R and a collection of safety gear. The response was really positive and a heap of kids had me signing the Ride Safe posters I had on hand." ‰Û÷I usually visit kids in schools, but his time the customers came to me which allowed me to spread the safety message to a wider audience in an easy fashion. Heaps of kids in the North East of Victoria are right into bikes, and plenty of them come from farms and ride bikes every day. The better educated they are about safety, the better for everyone." Lay ‰ÛÒ who is a long time Honda devotee - spends countless hours working at various junior coaching clinics conducted in the northeast of Victoria. "Even if just one kid is positively affected by the messages," he continued, "that will minimise the potential harm to themselves and the community, both from a financial and heartache point of view." "This sort of event is great because the kids get to talk to police in a non-confrontational environment, and they can learn from an early age that we are actually there to be helpful."
