Round five of the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship delivered plenty of drama under the roof at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
In the 450SX class, Ken Roczen rode a calculated race to claim the win, while Eli Tomac suffered a first-turn mishap that left him scrambling from the back of the pack. The result allowed Hunter Lawrence to take over the championship lead, with points tightening at the top of the standings and several riders still very much in contention.
Haiden Deegan dominated the 250SX West class, taking the holeshot and controlling both his heat and the main event for his fourth straight win. Levi Kitchen and Cameron McAdoo battled for the remaining podium spots, with Michael Mosiman and Ryder DiFrancesco rounding out the top five, while Deegan’s championship lead grew to 27 points as a result.
450SX
Qualifying set the tone early on the largest stadium floor of the season, with margins razor-thin at the front. Jorge Prado topped the final session with a 56.451s lap to secure top seed, just 0.009s clear of Red Bull KTM teammate Eli Tomac, who unleashed a massive quad line launch but came up ever so slightly short. Roczen slotted into third at 56.777s, only three-tenths back, while Lawrence and Chase Sexton completed the top five, all covered by just over four-tenths of a second.
Tomac carried that speed into the opening heat race, rocketing to the holeshot and cruising to victory as Lawrence worked his way past Christian Craig in a tense mid-race battle, holding off late pressure from Justin Cooper. In the second heat, Prado was untouchable out front, responding when Joey Savatgy briefly closed the gap, while Jason Anderson and Roczen traded blows behind him, Anderson ultimately holding on for third as Prado claimed his third heat win of the season.

The main event, however, flipped the script. A chaotic first turn saw Vince Friese grab the holeshot before a pile-up left Tomac on the ground alongside Craig and Colt Nichols. Tomac rejoined well back and spent the rest of the race charging, eventually salvaging 12th after passing Garrett Marchbanks on the final lap.
Up front, Lawrence initially led but quickly found Roczen applying pressure. Three laps in, Roczen made his move over the finish line jump and immediately began to stretch the gap, showcasing the early-race pace few in the field can match. As Lawrence settled into second, last week’s winner Cooper Webb rode a lonely third, while Sexton clawed his way into seventh after a poor start but couldn’t make further inroads.

Despite Lawrence’s reputation for late-race strength, Roczen only extended his advantage as the clock wound down, pulling out more than five seconds in the closing minutes to secure his 24th career 450SX win and his fourth since returning to Suzuki. Lawrence finished second for the fourth straight round, Webb completed the podium, with Cooper and Prado rounding out the top five.
The result reshuffled the championship picture, with Lawrence leaving Glendale holding a five-point lead over Roczen. Tomac’s tough night saw him drop eight points behind the red plate despite his recovery ride, while Webb and Sexton remain within striking distance at 15 and 17 points back respectively as the series heads to Seattle.

Reflecting on a measured and hard-earned win under the roof in Glendale, Ken Roczen said patience and track awareness were key on a fast, demanding circuit, before dedicating the victory to absent team manager Larry Brooks: “This feels unreal. I got a good start and then Friese cut me off going into the first turn, which I expected, which slowed my momentum a little bit. [Eventually] I was able to pass Hunter [Lawrence] and I knew it was going to be a long Main Event because trying to put a gap [on the field] was really hard and the track was tricky. It was just so fast, and everything was built super tall. I’m just really happy. I want to dedicate this win specifically to Larry [Brooks]. He hasn’t been able to be with us here the last few races. It really hurts all of our hearts. He loves this more than anybody. This one goes out to him.”
New championship leader Hunter Lawrence admitted it was a night of mixed emotions, acknowledging Ken Roczen’s pace while taking the positives of consistency and the red plate: “It’s bittersweet. I got a great start and was in a great position. Kenny [Roczen] was riding unreal tonight. He was riding a lot better than me in the first 10 minutes and opened that gap. I just didn’t quite have it. I didn’t feel amazing, just flat, but not bad. We’ll take it. [Getting] the red plate is cool, but we’ve got a long season ahead.”
Third-place finisher Cooper Webb was satisfied to leave Glendale with a solid podium and valuable points, especially at a venue that hasn’t always suited him: “It was a good night overall. I think we know this hasn’t always been my best place [results wise], so I was really happy with that result. Kenny [Roczen] was riding awesome and I was right there with Hunter [Lawrence] for a bit and then he started inching away. I fell into a bit of a no-man’s land and took it for a third. I’m happy with that. Happy to leave here with good points. A podium here is a win for me.”

Eli Tomac reflected on his misfortune after a first-turn incident left him battling from the back of the pack to finish 12th, salvaging some points but seeing Hunter Lawrence move eight clear in the standings: “I put myself in a position where bad things can happen. I got a little pinched at the start and then got taken out – so I don’t know what happened before that, all I know is, I was done. It took me a little while to get warmed up again, kind of got my body loosened up and going, and that’s what I had to get back to 12th. The good thing is, we’re not too far down – we’re fine – so we’ll just have to do some digging now.”

250SX West
The 250SX West class was no less dramatic, beginning with qualifying that swung back and forth before Deegan laid down a decisive 56.638s lap in Q2 to secure fastest overall and first gate pick, rebounding from an earlier penalty. Levi Kitchen was his closest challenger at 56.768s, just 0.130s adrift, with the pair the only riders dipping into the 56-second bracket. Cameron McAdoo, Max Vohland, and Ryder DiFrancesco rounded out the top five.
The opening 250SX heat was full of early drama as Lux Turner grabbed the early lead while teammate Parker Ross crashed on the first lap. Levi Kitchen charged forward from a slower start, battling Max Vohland through the technical sections and narrowly avoiding a fall in the sand with just over a minute to go. Max Anstie recovered from an early off-track excursion to move into the top five, while Turner briefly held on before Vohland and Kitchen swept past him. Vohland held firm for the win ahead of Kitchen, Turner, Anstie and Ross.
Heat two saw Haiden Deegan take a commanding holeshot and pull away immediately, with Carson Mumford initially in second until Michael Mosiman made a move just after the whoops. Ryder DiFrancesco came from last after an early fall to finish eighth, while Hunter Yoder lost momentum in the rhythm section, allowing Cameron McAdoo to pass him for fourth. Deegan dominated the race from start to finish, leading a Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 1–2 with Mosiman second, followed by McAdoo, Yoder and Mumford.
The main event followed a now-familiar pattern, with Deegan launching to the holeshot and immediately opening a gap, Mosiman settling into second as DiFrancesco and McAdoo disputed third. Behind them, Kitchen and Max Anstie were buried after poor starts, forcing Kitchen into an aggressive recovery ride. Using superior whoop speed, Kitchen carved his way forward, first passing Vohland and DiFrancesco, then capitalising when McAdoo cased a gap double to move into podium contention.

With pace to burn, Kitchen continued his charge, blasting past Mosiman through the sand to take second, while McAdoo regrouped to reclaim third late in the race. Deegan remained untouchable out front, taking his fourth consecutive win and the 11th 250SX victory of his career, punctuating the moment by miming a bow-and-arrow celebration on the finish line.
The final order saw Deegan ahead of Kitchen, McAdoo, Mosiman, and DiFrancesco, with the result extending Deegan’s championship advantage to 27 points. Mosiman sits second in the standings, while DiFrancesco edged ahead of Anstie for third, just two points back, as the 250SX West title picture continues to tilt firmly in Deegan’s favour.
After extending his 250SX West points lead yet again with another controlled performance Deegan reflected on the momentum he’s building early in the championship, saying, “These races have been solid. Lots of hard work with the family and the team. Thank you to Yamaha and the whole Star Racing team, my bike is amazing. This feels good. The hard work I put in this offseason, it’s paid off. It shows who works hard and who doesn’t.”
Runner-up Levi Kitchen was candid when asked to assess his night, admitting that while there were positives to take away, costly mistakes continue to hurt him at crucial moments. “Yeah, it was a good night. There were a lot of positives, but there was also a negative, and I can’t keep doing that,” said Kitchen. “Track position is super important, and I did put myself there, but I felt good on the bike every race. I’ve just got to keep working and keep trying. I’m going to keep fighting. Thanks to the whole Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team for sticking behind me, along with my friends and family. I’m excited to get back to work with a home race next weekend. That’ll be fun, and maybe a little mud would be nice. Thanks to the fans in Glendale, and I’ll see you next week.”

Third-placed Cameron McAdoo admitted his podium didn’t come easily, explaining that persistence and patience were key as the race unfolded. “I had to fight for that one,” said McAdoo. “I got myself into third early, dropped back, and then just kept digging. With a few laps to go, I knew I had more in the tank and made it happen. Having my sister here meant a lot, and that gave me some extra motivation. I can’t thank my team enough for sticking behind me through the early rounds. This one was special, and it felt great to put two Pro Circuit bikes on the podium again.”
The championship continues next weekend on February 14 in Seattle, Washington for round 6.
