Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf is awaiting further medical assessment after a crash during Saturday’s timed practice session brought his MXGP of Italy weekend to a premature end at Montevarchi.
The historic Miravalle circuit returned to the FIM Motocross World Championship calendar for the first time in 20 years, with its rocky hard-pack surface, technical elevation changes and challenging conditions providing a stern test for riders throughout the weekend.
De Wolf’s troubles began in Saturday’s timed practice when he suffered a heavy crash. Determined to continue, the Dutchman attempted to take part in the MXGP Qualifying Race later that day, but ongoing pain from the incident forced him to withdraw before completing the race.
Following further evaluation, the decision was made to sideline de Wolf for the remainder of the Grand Prix weekend, with the focus now shifting to recovery and additional medical checks ahead of the next round of the championship.

“It was a big impact in timed practice, and unfortunately, there wasn’t much I could do to avoid it,” de Wolf explained. “We’ll go for further checks tomorrow morning and then understand more from there. Of course, it’s disappointing, especially after the momentum we had coming into Italy, but it is what it is. The focus now is on making sure everything is okay and hopefully being back as soon as possible.”
The setback interrupts the momentum de Wolf had been building in his rookie MXGP World Championship season, with the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing rider now awaiting the outcome of further assessments before the series heads to Agueda, Portugal, for round 10 of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship.
