Kawasaki’s Meghan Rutledge Retains Austarlian Women’s Supercross Title

Posted:

Kawasaki's Meghan Rutledge has won the 2014 Australian Women's Supercross Championship at Bathurst, NSW over the weekend.

The 19 year old defending champion from Picton, NSW won 5 of her 6 races throughout the 2 round series on board her KX250F to be crowned the Australian champion.

Run in conjunction with the famous Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar race, the 5 round 2014 Australian Supercross Championship kicked off alongside the famous Mount Panorama race circuit over the weekend with the Women's class being run and won over the first 2 rounds.

Racing alongside male Intermediate and Clubman riders, Meghan Rutledge qualified outright fastest on her KX250F for Friday's 1st round of racing and then went on to win all 3 final races to grab the lead in the series.

It wasn't a walk in the park though for the 2012 & 2013 Australian Women's Motocross champion. Rutledge fractured her thumb during practice on Friday but still rode on to win all her races on Friday night.

Then disaster struck again later that evening when Rutledge was involved in a mid-air collision with another rider during the Pro Lites final race which she was also competing in. She was unable to finish the race due to an injury to her other hand.

With the allure of another Australian Championship too much to resist, Rutledge decided to ride through the pain on Saturday night to go 1-1-2 and win the 2014 Australian Women's Supercross Championship. The title means Rutledge has won back to back Australian WSX Championships.

"All round it was a good weekend for me" A happy Meghan Rutledge said. "It's absolutely awesome to win another Australian championship and I'm so thankful to my family, Kawasaki and all of my sponsors.

"I got a bit banged up out there but it didn't deter me from my goal which was to win."

Meghan Rutledge looks forward to returning to Europe in 2015 where she will try to win her first FIM World Women's Motocross Championship with the Bud Monster Energy Kawasaki Team after finishing runner up in 2013 and 2014. She will also compete again in Australia in 2015 at the Australian MX Nationals.
