WBR Race Team rider Hugh McKay finished in 2nd place overall (14-16 years 85cc class) on board his KX85 at the 2014 Australian Junior MX Championship at Appin, NSW this week.
Hugh McKay took a moto win on board his KX85 to give Kawasaki a much coveted podium finish at the country's biggest Junior MX event. Hugh was inside the top 3 in every moto with 3-3-3-1-2 results for 2nd overall.
"I'm really stoked with the result. It was a good weekend and I'm really happy to get on the podium." A happy Hugh McKay, who races for the Kawasaki dealership based, Whitten Brothers Racing Team, said.
"The KX85 is an amazing bike and I'm really happy to get it on the podium. I'll step up to the KX250F next year so I'll start increasing my strength and training harder and I'm excited for 2015."
KX Junior Squad riders enjoyed good results at the National event. Morgan Fogarty grabbed a 4th place finish in his first moto on his KX85 (12-14 years 85cc class) however a crash in the second moto would put him back to 11th and end his chances of a podium finish to the series. He finished in 8th place overall.
Grace Rowe looked set for an almost certain podium finish in the Girls 85cc class however disaster struck in the first race when she crashed and broke her arm. She still remounted and completed the remaining 4 laps to take an incredible 8th place finish for the moto.
Heaton Rejtano enjoyed a top 5 finish in moto 3 on board his KX85 (14-16 years 85cc class) however a DNF in moto 2 would affect his overall result. His 6-DNF-4-8 results left him in 8th overall for the class.
KX Junior Squad riders Lyndon Snodgrass, Mitch Brierley and Josh Brierley entered the Australian Junior MX Championship hot on the heels of success in the National Junior Off Road series. The 3 riders rode extremely well considering MX is not their specialty with each of them making it through to the finals.
Kawasaki riders at Appin benefited from the support of Kawasaki Australia mechanics and management who attended the event and National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Troy Carroll who traveled from QLD to observe the event.
Kawasaki has congratulated all of their riders on their efforts and results at the 2014 Australian Junior MX Championship.
