Kawasaki head the time sheets as Phillip Island testing concludes

Posted:

With the World Superbike test at Phillip Island coming to a conclusion it was Kawasaki's Tom Sykes who ended up fastest across the two days with a 1:31.097 set in Monday‰Ûªs cooler afternoon temperatures, with teammate and current world champion Jonathan Rea second quickest (1:31.249).

The next nine riders on the timesheets were all well within a second of Sykes, as this year's WorldSBK season shapes up as a battle royal. Davide Giugliano (Ducati) was third followed by Honda's Michael van der Mark, Sylvain Guintoli (Yamaha), Jordi Torres (BMW Motorrad), Nicky Hayden (Honda), Alex Lowes (Yamaha), Xavi Fores (Ducati), Chaz Davies (Ducati) and German Marcus Reiterberger (BMW Motorrad).

"There were a lot of stoppages for red flags over the course of two days but I think we are in a very good situation," Sykes said.

"We are fast with the cold conditions, warmer conditions, and also with some laps on the tyres. We have finished our two days of testing in a strong way, at a track that has been one of our limits in the past.

"Everything is definitely heading in the right direction and we have gathered some great information. I am happy to head into the race weekend now having completed a successful test. All we have to do now is get our heads together, have a brief summary of what we have done but on the whole we have made some key changes and put ourselves in a better position for the opening race weekend.‰Û
