Kale Makeham handles the pressure of backing up his Raymond Terrace result

Posted:

Koondrook local Kale Makeham is living his motocross dream as he competes in the Pro Lites class of the 2013 Monster Energy Drink MX Nationals.

In his rookie year, Makeham has impressed many by securing a podium finish at the opening round of the ten round national series, and his debut in the pro lite class at Raymond Terrace two weeks ago.

Makeham backed up his round one result at the second round of the series, held in perfect conditions at Murray Bridge, South Australia on Sunday the 28th of April.

Racing two thirty minute plus 1 lap races, Makeham placed himself high in the overall points standings for the day and continues to be placed in side the top three in the championship standings early on in the series, driven by his 2012 U19s Supercross Championship success.

‰ÛÏRound 2 went well for me. I had a bit of pressure to back my round 1 performance up, but we were able to keep it really consistent with a 4th and a 5th so it was a successful weekend." said a positive Kale Makeham.

Competing against factory teams, the AJ's Motorcycles backed rider has been able to tussle with the factory riders on his KTM 2-stoke machine.

With the lites class being lead by the Factory supported Serco Yamaha team who are hold the top two positions in the series with riders Luke Styke and Luke Clout, Makeham leads the way at the first ranked privateer and the first KTM overall in the series standings.

"It's good to keep it in the top 5, but once you've had a taste of the podium you want more and I'm more determined then ever to get it. We'll keep working hard and hopefully improve on some areas and make a charge for it a round 3." continued Makeham.

Round three of the MX Nationals will be held in Victoria's Gippsland region at the Wonthaggi circuit. A circuit that has been used for recent Victorian Motocross Championships and been a round of the MX Nationals in previous years.

‰ÛÏWe're sitting 3rd overall in the championship and we're the top KTM rider so I'm stoked about that it means a lot to me," enthused Makeham. "KTM Australia does so much for myself along with Tunetech racing so it's great to be up front like that and representing the brand.

"All this wouldn't be possible without Steve Jones though, so a big thanks to him and everyone at Tunetech racing, it's still a learning year for us but its shaping up to be a good one!

"Also a big thanks to Ben Griffith for his help, AJ's motorcycles, Fox, Oakley, The Collective, Motorex, Skullcandy, Pirelli, Matrix, Ethika, Ogio and KAJX Communications." Makeham concluded.
