Justin Brayton starts Supercross title defense with a win
Penrite Honda‰Ûªs Justin Brayton got his Australian Supercross Championship 450 (SX1) class title defence off to the perfect start at the opening round in Jimboomba, QLD, last night.

In front of a strong crowd the American won his qualifying and heat races and lead every lap of the final to beat home Australian Motocross Champion Dean Ferris and former Supercoss champion Daniel Reardon to make a strong statement to all challengers.

"My Honda 450 was amazing, everything was working well and I felt settled all day," Brayton said. "The team worked well together which is a credit to our Team Manager Jay Foreman as the team is made up of people from all over Australia and the world.‰Û

Brayton's Fellow American Gavin Faith also returned to Australia to contest the championship in the 250 (SX2) class. The American Areancross star almost held out for the win but after being off the bike for a while fitness played it's part and he had to settle for second behind Hayden Mellross.

"The final was going well; I got the holeshot and felt comfortable. I pushed hard in the opening laps and exhausted myself," Faith said. "It‰Ûªs been 5 months since I last raced and I didn‰Ûªt compose myself and it most certainly affected my overall result. That said, I am happy to walk away with a second place and take the weekends lessons into round 2.‰Û

Queensland young gun Jesse Dobson also rode in the 450 (SX1) class but mistakes ultimately cost him and ended the night in 12th place.

"I felt my day was going well. I am disappointed I made so many mistakes in the final as I genuinely thought I was riding well," Dobson mused. "I have taken a lot away from this weekend and will work hard going into round 2 on minimising my mistakes over 20 laps.‰Û
