The 2024 New South Wales Junior Dirt Track Championship meeting showcased the great talent coming through the ranks as two days of close and exciting action was turned at the Kurri Kurri Junior Motorcycle Club’s Loxford Park track last weekend.

Many of the riders are already very accomplished motorcycle racers, displaying skills and poise beyond their years, and are likely on their way to very successful careers when they enter the senior ranks.

The next riders to join the senior ranks are in the 13 to Under 16s classes and while the same three riders shared the rostrum in their two classes there were plenty of others who showed out well.

The 4-stroke final was won by Sam Drane who has already sampled flat track racing in the US as he looks to follow in the footsteps of older brother Tom who was on hand to support Sam on the weekend.

Drane led home Beau Bailey, who is already making a big impact in Speedway and Cooper Archibald, who is looking to head to the US next year.

Both Bailey and Archibald were fortunate to be able to line up in that re-run after both had crashed in to the fallen Jayden Holder in the first attempt to run the race.

Holder was battered and bruised, Bailey was moving with difficulty by presentation time and they joined local Max Earl on the injured list, the latter breaking a wrist on the first afternoon.

Archibald had earlier wrapped up the 2-stroke class decided over five rounds outpointing Bailey and Drane.

One of a number of riders who are now focusing primarily on speedway is Cooper Antone from Albury-Wodonga but he showed that he is still a force on dirt track.

He battled with Gunnedah rider Hugo Holmes in two finals with the honours shared with both taking a win and a second placing in the 9 to Under 13s classes, while Holmes added another second place to make him the only rider to be on the rostrum three times. Holmes’s latter second place was behind Lockie Duggan, who was one of two riders to win a class with an unbeaten run through heats and final.

The other rider to score a clean sweep over five rounds was Amelia Kotze in the 4-stroke class for the girls even though Holly Hope-Hodgetts was best out of the start in every round.

Host club rider Braxsen Anderson was the only rider to claim a double, taking out both classes in the 7 to Under 9s.

Two other classes were not championships but both Matilda Heaton-New and Jed Louis were nevertheless impressive in beating their opposition.
